Karting Originally Meant For Gran Turismo 6

Polyphony’s pernickety petrol-head Kazunori Yamauchi has spoken over at Gamescom about the recent unveiling of karting in Gran Turismo 5, revealing that the mode was actually initially earmarked for Gran Turismo 6. The sultan of scope-creep told journalists:

“This is something we were actually saving for Gran Turismo 6 but the information leaked out so we decided we would just put it in this one.”

Returning to the present for a second, the renowned perfectionist also spoke about Gran Turismo 5’s B-Spec mode, a team-focused driver direction feature. He also reaffirmed that the game would have course making functionality and a 3D Photo Mode.

Gran Turismo 5 will launch in Europe on November 3rd.

  1. lovely jubbly, a nice 3D photo mode. Not that I can use it, but all sounds good.

  2. TRACK EDITOR! Where did I put the tissue…

    • hahaha.clasic!

They have packed so much into GT5, i wouldn’t begrudge paying £60 for it…

      • Shhh, don’t tell them that

      • yeah good point! ;)

But in all fairness, i am a believer in value for money and fair pay for products. I think with all the work and polish that seems to have gone into GT5 they deserve a little extra

  3. I wonder how the reviews will turn out. I wonder if the press end up stinging him and showing how his OCD and desire to get everything in there has ruined the game somewhat. He might even learn something for GT6.

Cynical but still open to being amazed.

    • I’m curious about that too. Forza 3 got great reviews and it didn’t take them what felt like 26 years to make it. The hype is built up around GT5 and by now I don’t think it can live up to it. Every small thing will be held against it. Considering the time it took them to make it this game should be near perfect in every aspect. Sometimes trying to please every racing group out there is not the right way to deliver a great game.

    • if it gets bad reviews, just for those reasons then gaming journalism is no where near having integrity yet.

  4. I cant wait, this game will rock.

  5. Is pernickety a word? Not trying to be an asshole, it may very well be an English-English word that I’ve never heard of. I’ve heard “persnickety” before.

    • Pernickety – Characterized by excessive precision and attention to trivial details (also: persnickety).

      Also: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pernickety
Apparently persnickety is a variant of pernickety.

      :)

      • Knowledge! I can now say I’ve learned something today. Thank you Kovacs.

      • As have I. I wasn’t aware of which word was a variant of the other. I did know pernickety was a real word though. I usually only make up new words after my fifth coffee.
        :)

  6. I cant believe it….its absolutely awesome…

I cant wait for this game….its one of the titles all us PS3 gamers have been dreaming about.

I cant believe that soon, real soon, I will own GT5. The greatest racer ever…..

  7. Yamauchi you fool! What are you doing?? There will be NOTHING left to put into GT6!

    • GT6 pigeon-racing is gonna be AWESOME.

      • Oooh yeah!

Dick Dasterdly could be a “premium driver”

    • Seriously. What could you possibly add to the game for GT6??

      • Ninjas?

      • Great way to improve any game: add ninjas!

      • Or zombies : p

      • zombie ninjas

      • Chicken Racing

        Toad Racing

        Camel Racing

        Badger Racing

        Stop me if dare….Mwhhhhaaaaaa

    • Top Gear Challenges

    • But they could do 4D!!!

  8. Gran turismo 6 bloody hell see you in 2099 ₪

  9. Gran Turisimo 5 has been in development that long now they may as well just slap a 6 on it and call it Gran Turisimo 6 anyway!

  10. I wonder if GT6 will follow relatively quickly? Whilst the engine is still fresh, I know he likes to rewrite stuff, but maybe just this time GT6p won’t be too far behind.

    • thats a very good point dude they already have the engine and everything

    • That’s exactly what they will do imho.

Kaz has already said “From our perspective, it doesn’t seem like that long a time. To make Gran Turismo 5, we threw away the legacy code from GT4 and started from scratch. It’s been five years from [the release of] GT4, and that’s the same amount of time it took to develop the first GT(1). To create a game from scratch, that’s about the amount of time it takes to get it right.”

      and

“Yes. You won’t have to wait as long as you did for GT5. GT5 was basically the creation of a whole new operating system, and developing GT6 will be like adding new applications that run on that new operating system.”

    • 3 years maybe, have all the GT games had a Prologue?

      • Yes but so much time has passed since the original one that its single car roster of Model T Fords (available in black) now looks positively stingy.
