FIFA 11 TV Spot

Some people put look forward to Christmas day or maybe even their birthdays, I look forward to the day the new FIFA ad airs, Sunday is that day, the day when EA’s latest entry into the FIFA franchise hogs practically a whole ad-break. Although, thanks to the magic of the Internet we can get a sneak preview now.

As you can see Wayne Rooney takes centre stage accompanied by Kaka, Benzma, Ozil, Cech and Iniesta, to the tune of the excellent Swords Of a Thousand Men, but the star of the ad is you, yes you because together we are 11 which is EA’s way of pushing the games ability to feature 11 v 11 online action.

The ad below will be shown through the UK and Europe, but if you prefer your football to be called Soccer, you can see the US ad here.

  1. “its in the game” omg Ultimate Team really!?

  2. Dam I just broke my duelshock trying to spin it on my finger!!

  3. Always knew the Arsenal team was just a bunch of girls…

    • might explain why half of them are always injured

  4. Not completely ps3 branded this time

  5. a ps3 controller for a multiplatform game? well, that’s a first

    • Nah, FIFA last year was PS3 as well, and I think year before perhaps.

  6. Maybe Rooney should get back on the training ground and his face off the front pages and onto the back ones…

  7. That’s an impressive advert, better than last years IMO. Sony may not have the money to co-fund a lot of adverts but they put their money behind the important ones – the DualShock 3 got almost as much screen time as the game! Although it seems they’ve dropped the exclusive console/packshot splash at the end of the ad this year, though it’s still PS3 only branded on the US version…

    • Saw it on TV at the weekend (predictably at half-time in the football) and sure enough the actual UK broadcast ad has the full PS3 console branding at the start and end complete with little “PS3 game footage” disclaimer at the bottom during gameplay montages. I’m not sure if it even mentioned other consoles at all…

  8. Thought we’d see “Playstaychun” at the end there.

Impressive ad though. Shame about Rooney though. I wonder whether he’ll be on next years,

  9. I always find these TV spots pretty cringeworthy to be honest but on a lighter note, I tried the demo earlier and was very impressed.
I’m thinking a demo for both PES and FIFA is the way forward this year.

    • Demo :S I meant rental. Now I feel all foolish and everyfink!

  10. Hah, look at the FIFA Rooney likeness. It looks like some Mr. Potato Head/Shrek cross breed. Hang on, was that the real thing?

    • Yeah, EA used to give a load of yarn about the best graphics but PES have had them for maybe 4 … definitely 3 years, I think I prefer the FIFA movement this year … I’m honestly sensing a rental for both … It’s only sensible …

      • After trying the demo of FIFA 11 I wasn’t so keen. Trying not to be fanboy-ish about the two games but I think I’ve played PES for so long (too long?) that the weightier, chunkier feel of Pro Evo 2011 felt more ‘right’. I just couldn’t adapt to the somewhat detached feeling I got from FIFA.

It’s a shame – I really wanted to like FIFA this year – the fact that I could play it and not have to build my beloved Middlesbrough from scratch an obvious bonus over Pro Evo, and I quite enjoyed the Ultimate Team mode from past games (I’ve got FIFA 09) – but I’m just not feeling the love for it this season.

      • It always takes me a while to get back into the groove.

One weird thing I found (on PES) was that the majority of my goals came from crosses and typically I pass it around and play through balls, my brother is the opposite to me and struggled to score from crosses which is typically his forte.

They’re always different and It’ll take a little bedding in time as usual.
