It has been confirmed that David O.Russell is to write and direct the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune movie. The official press release read as follows:
“David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) has been set to write and direct Columbia Pictures’ Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, an action-adventure based upon the bestselling PlayStation 3 game, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. The film will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad, and Alex Gartner.
The story follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake.
Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, “David is a tremendous choice to take on this film. He’s equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy, and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation.”
To add further spice to the proceedings, the legend that is Nathan Fillion has been most vocal on Twitter about how keen he is to take up the role of Nathan Drake and his infamous half tuck shirt:
“If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!”
It seems fans are keen too, sending messages such as:
“Who must we frak to get you cast in the Drake’s Fortune movie????”
We think Fillion would make a fantastic Drake. Who would you pick?

Theres only one choice for the role and it has to go to Ryan Reynolds. Who cares if Nathan Fillion looks a bit like Nathan Drake, Reynolds is the best actor for the job!

Brandon Flowers, i think of him looking like Drake in the crossfire video.

Gyllenhaal would struggle with the comedic side of things I think. Either North or Fillion could be comfortable with the funny side of the character. Fillion gets my vote too as thought he’s a class act ever since he was the bad guy in Buffy series 7 (I think it was) and Firefly showed how comfortable he is with both comedy and tragedy.

Let’s be fair here, the draw in this film is NOT going to be the actor playing the part. The draw is going to be the franchise itself. There is already a built in audience for the film – and there is a gap in the film Market after the disappointment of Indiana Jones 4 – so it doesn’t need a big name as a “draw”.
Also, don’t forget, a films budget also includes the cast. So just think how much money they can save or spend elsewhere by hiring someone like Fillion instead of Hugh Jackman? Don’t doubt for a second that that won’t come into it. And Jackman may not be available, anyway, as he is going to be making Wolverine 2 very soon.
Personally, I’d rather see Fillion in the role than Jackman anyway, as I just think he would be a better “fit” for the character. Don’t forget that Drake is a loveable rogue, a charmer with a ruthless side & Fillion has proven that he is perfect in that kind of role (just take a look at his work on Serenity & Firefly, and to a lesser extent Castle for proof of that).
As for David O’Rusell as writer/director I’m not totally sure about that. But Three Kings was fun & The Fighter looks great, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
Regardless, I should think Sony & Naughty Dog are going to be heavily, heavily involved in the film, & I can’t see them doing anything to damage one of their flagship titles, can you?

I remember there was all sorts of controversy when jake gyllenhaal got Prince Of Persia… a series of longer standing than and cross platform appeal over many years so arguably a far bigger fanbase than Uncharted’s
And the studio bosses, director and everyone who’s anyone at Hollywood said there’s no way they’d make a $200m movie and not cast an A-lister
There are of course actors who buck the rule (like Avatar for example), but that’s because something else is ‘carrying’ the movie like the director (in the case of Avatar as Cameron has a box office pull all of his own)
but I’ll eat my hat if there’s not a hollywood a-lister fronting things, either that or the movie won’t be a mega-budget one and the lead could go to anyone.

Jason Statham should be “Lavaravich,” or what ever the head bad guy’s name is.

If they fuck it up we can always say use this failed movie as a comparasion to the interactive master (as in the Game is better then a realistic movie ever could be)
if they succed it will be a great way to spread Uncharted to the unknowing masses
also i suggest Matthew Fox as title role.
