Sony has confirmed the news that LOVEFiLM is indeed heading to the PS3. This means that LOVEFiLM subscribers will be able to stream the UK’s largest choice of subscription titles directly to their TVs, through their PS3s.
LOVEFiLM Chief Executive, Simon Calver, had the following to say:
“This is game-changing for LOVEFiLM and transformational for the UK home entertainment market as a whole. PS3 already has a very large installed customer base of all ages, all of whom will soon be able to benefit from our unique combination of instantly available content, streamed through their PS3, as well as DVD, Blu-ray & Games rental by post. To become PS3’s partner for our service is a tremendous endorsement of the value, choice and convenience offered by LOVEFiLM.”
The LOVEFiLM service will become available on the XMB (Cross Media Bar) on all internet-connected PS3s, providing most members of LOVEFiLM on subscription packages access to thousands of titles from major studios and independents, streamed instantly to their TV via their PS3, in addition to the rental by post services.
Members will be able to scroll through titles on the page, also search through categories including ‘Pick of the Week’, ‘Most Watched’ and ‘Highest Rated’, view ratings and search through the LOVEFiLM instant offering by title, actor and genre. LOVEFiLM will offer any PS3 users who are not already LOVEFiLM subscribers, exclusive incentives to join the service, including free trials.”
It’s not clear what this means for the current PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service, which also offers the option to ‘buy’ films rather than just rent then.

I’m glad, I tried to set up a Netflix account with my card but at Tom Arnolds address (just needed an American one !) and my card got cancelled and I’m forever being emailed by them to continue the setup of my account ….doh !

Fantastic!! I’ve tried Lovefilm video streaming through my laptop and it’s so stop-start. I hope this will be better.

Also, their selection of streaming films is terrible. No new releases at all, all just old films. The newer films are ones you’ve never heard of, yes there are some good oldies but i’ve seen them all. Unless they’re going to add a large amount of service to their watch now catalogue this feature really isn’t going to get used much at all,

Sounds good. I am a PS3 user and Lovefilm subscriber so as long as this works its win win!

I’ll give this a go when it launches.
Any word in HD streams, I presume its SD only?
Lymmusic
hardly even sd on the love film player… 640 x 480 ish as a guess.. unless they improve it for ps3 of course. oh and all the free streaming films are on blinkbox free already.. and that works on ps3 right now

Few things:
Its starting from the £5.99 package which includes 3 disc rentals & 2 hours only online viewing. Of course can upgrade to better package.
Will the movies be HD quality format?
Think I may just stick to the disc base version, only takes few days to arrive

I have a 5Mbit connection and 720p video is possible without any buffering. Although, it’s not 720p Blu-ray quality but it’s passable. I wouldn’t mind it buffering some more to bump the quality up a touch. If LoveFILM do HD I will be most interested.

UK only :-(
Stef Nighthawk
As with almost all European PSN services
Tzares
How about making a filmstore for the rest of europe?
or we could just continue making more for uk.. i think they need 4-5 of em..
bah! ps has something to learn from microsofts store system..
jimmy-google
Sony run more stores than MS. They actually have more PSN stores in Europe than MS do worldwide.
Tzares
yeah.. thats kinda the problem.. they should have 1 global one.. that way no one would whine and be treated differently.. if ms can, why cant ps?
