Ridge Racer, not a game you hear very often on any gaming site, it was a game that was launched with the PlayStation 3 back on the 23rd of March 2007, over 3 and a half years old, it was also the first 1080p Blu-ray game.
And here we are in 2010 with 3D starting to penetrate the market, and now it seems Namco are keen, so keen that they’ve released a patch to enable you to play the one and only “Riiiiidge Raceeeeer” in 3D.
You can download the patch off the store as of now, surprising seeing as we’ve heard nothing at all about the patch not even in this weeks update. Ridge Racer 7 was gorgeous game, and I’m sure the 3D version will look even more amazing.
Now all I need to do is go find a copy of Ridge Racer 7. And all Namco need to do is announce Ridge Racer 8.

Ridge Racer 7’s amazing. Will give this a shot tonight. In 2D, mind. :(

I still play it on and off. Any chance it’ll get a trophy patch with the 3D?
Jas-n
I doubt it, the download’s just 3D support, but who knows they might add in trophies a a later date, 4th year anniversary?
MiguelX69
And what about the goddamn trophies?
An Ultimate Edition of this with 3D, trophies, and Move support would be great.
kivi95
Bring a trophy patch and i will buy the game.
skibadee
same here.

Why am I not surprised
skibadee
meaning?
skibadee
why would I go back to a game that I had when I got my first PS3 years ago with out a reason.

Why does a game have to have trophies for people to consider playing them? We were playing games and enjoying them long before trophies/achievments came along lol. A lot of the time trophies are just a grind for me and I rarely try and get all of them for any particular game (as discussed in the article a few days ago).
Jas-n
Because it’s a good game. Plus the article states the patch is for 3D, so there’s your reason. I didn’t mention needing a trophy patch because 3D patches can be used as testers for future titles, whereas trophies, pointless coding into a pre-launch title.
skibadee
3D is more pointless hardly anyone owns the tech.
skibadee
then don’t collect the trophies simple but now every game comes with them like it or not.
Jas-n
Yes not many people will own 3D displays, but it’s like HD was a few years back.
I know I’ll enjoy it when I get a copy.
Quinlank
What a random game to update.
Jas-n
That’s why I posted it (that and the 3D patch), maybe a sign they’re testing the water for Ridge Racer 8?
Mike
Awesome. Looks like I’ll be getting the game dirt cheap and playing it on my parents 3DTV :D

No rubble and no trophies, 3D yes…

Got this game bundled with my ps3. Hated it, just could not get control of the sliding mechanics at all. If i had a 3dtv i’d probably give it another go, or as said above if it got a trophy patch.

Had sold this game long ago, and then the 3D patch dropped a couple of weeks ago… I bought a G27 wheel in anticipation of GT5 and was itching to get Ridge Racer again for a more arcade experience.
You can pick it up for around £5 to £7 online (secondhand).
The 3D patch is free, tiny, and for the most part – not completely impressive – It doesn’t old up to Motorstorm’s 3D, but is closer to that of Wipeout.
The G27 is way too loose for the main steering radius, only getting tight when you take a tight corner (which you’re mostly drifting around anyways). There’s no force-feedback other than this, so a little disappointing.
Hopefully Ridge Racer 8 is in the pipe, as I can imagine the graphics would be top-notch.

fingers crossed they whack in trophies with the MGS4 3D patch too
