A fine week for Internet to take a dip from 3.5 to 1meg…. fecking BT :|

    • I made the switch from Sky to Virgin a few weeks ago due to awful net speeds. Install is happening this Sat so great timing from my point of view :)

      • It would be a miracle if they came to my area – they never will though, they’d have to lay a 2 mile cable for 3 houses which they’ll never do

      • Aren’t they mean to be launching some high speed broadband-ove satellite er, satellite soon, in order to cater for people without the infrastructure necessary to hook up to a high speed fibre link? Sure I read about it in the press.

    • my internet’s gone from a 10MB to 2~10 heavily varying. DAMN YOU VIRGIIIIN!

      • I’m on Virgin’s M package. It might be because you’ve downloaded too much in one go. If you download over 1.5GB within a few hours, i think, you get your speed dropped to 2mB/s for 5 hours.
Outside the hours of 9am-9pm you can download as much as you want without affecting your net speed :-P

    • Mine was running at 0.08Mb/s on average last week. Gotta love BT

  2. Awesome. I have both Lovefilm and a PS3. I wonder how well they’ll stream…

    • So far I’ve found blinkbox.com to be the best by a mile, it streams at a good consistent quality with no buffering, miles better than the iPlayer which looks like a mobile phone vid on Youtube for me, and it buffers all the time.

I haven’t watched a Mubi yet, but hopefully LoveFilm uses similar tech to Blinkbox.com

      • I can second that experience of blinkbox, watched a couple of films without a hitch.

I am keeping a close eye on this LoveFilm business, i have a Tesco rental account but will be switching to this as soon as the introductory offers are announced. Would be interested to see what the size of the files are and how well it streams. I like how i can still have my physical blu-ray list with them to receive in the post with the option of just selecting something via the PS3 should i so fancy it.

      • @ solid nat
isn’t tesco rental run by lovefilm.

      • Blinkbox is a dream to use so Lovefilm has a lot to live upto

      • I don’t understand these problems people have with iPlayer – I use it every week multiple times and it’s verging on TV quality without any streaming problems. The site itself has a few bugs (the categories doesn’t seem to update the shows in there anymore), but streaming is perfect.

      • The only problem I have with Iplayer on PS3 is that it hates my SD tv and has squashed all the writing and boxes and zoomed them all in but I’ve never had a problem with it unless my bandwith has been minimalistic to say the least.

  3. YAY. I have a love film account that i use mainly to rent games. Wonder what the quality is like.

  4. Woop Woop!

Just got confirmation that SIMS 3 and CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS are arriving tomora :)

Also I love watching the free films with my package. I watched Heartbreaker last night and it was brilliant :)

  5. I may have to reactivate my LoveFilm account now then, sounds good.

  6. will kick mubis’ ass, cant w8

  7. Great news. Looking forward to this.

  8. Awesome, I cant wait :)

  9. Im guessing it’s only the movies they offer already for streaming you will get to the PS3 and not all of them? Might be wrong but I don’t see this affecting me. Don’t really like the movies the offer for streaming anyway.

Correct me if Im wrong though. Would love it if all the movies were available for streaming direct.

  10. Given that Wednesday is store update day, I presume this will be a free download a la Mubi?

    • Mubi was in my Playstation Plus section and I thought ooh this is early for us and then saw it in the latest section so was like oh.. why is it there? It’ll probably be the same case and it will be advertised all over the store and it will be free to download I’m sure

      • Actually, it may be a system update that provides it like with BBC IPlayer
