I’ll admit I’ve not been on PlayStation Home for years. I just didn’t like it, and the place seemed to attract an odd type of crowd. I’ve been told it’s much improved though, and with the introduction of Update 1.4 this Thursday it sounds like Home is about to get even better.
Whilst the full list of changes have yet to be revealed, Sony has announced that voice chat is in, as well as the ability to create a group of up to eight people to talk in both public and personal spaces.
“The best part is that these groups will have dedicated voice and text chat channels that allow you to speak to members of your group regardless of where each of you may be located in-world… New voice and chat channels will also be made available for clubs, making communication with other members of your club much easier.”
Changes have also been made to your wardrobe, allowing you to locate and store things more easily.

Home would be great if you could go to it, meet friends, launch a game together and be in multiplayer with the same friends, all in that simple process. Then Home would finally have a use.
kevatron400
I believe you can do that with some titles… Wasn’t that a big selling point when home first came out? It’s up to devs to integrate I think.
MrJimmy
yep Warhawk works for example.

Sony need to starting imposing these things like multiplayer invites using the built-in messages system (like COD-MW2 and F1 2010 do) along with Home launching. Otherwise there will be little point in bothering adding these features if everyone doesn’t use them!

i think its a good thing they dont shove stuff like home into peoples face. i would hate it if some bright spark at Sony said, lets scrap the XMB and do everything through HOME!?!?! Or, all multiplayer games must be launched through a HOME space!?!
I dont need to walk around a virtual world watching people doing the running man every time i want to boot up a quick killzone game
DrNate86
You can do that anyway, you just send a group invite to people in a lobby. I just don’t see the point of Home at all. It’s kind of fun, you can dip into it every few months to try a few new games and win some clothes, but ultimately there is just no point to it. The games aren’t as good as real games, if I want to watch slow-streaming movie trailers I can unplug my modem and jump on youtube, and if I want to socialise with random people I can go outside!

I tried going on home again the other week, with my girlfriend, to show her. I still had people adding me, asking if I had cam. If Sony could make it so that you can hide your identity, and show it to friends, or people you choose to accept, then I’d go back. Until then, no thanks.
cheekyMcB
That is very odd I go on fairly often and no one has ever asked if I have a cam and I can count on 1 hand how many have tried to add me without having a long chat with me 1st. Maybe your PSN ID is just appealing and inspiring people to add you to see if you really are a monk that jumps?!
Jumping Monks
What, Nuclear_Spoon? Yeah, cos’ that sounds inviting to that sort of thing. Perhaps it’s because my girl friend created a female avatar?
MrBilly
I think you found your problem.
Last time i signed into home (at least a year ago) it was full of people trying to talk/virtually sexually harrass the female avitars…
I’m guessing those people have never had a girlfriend or been outside in real life for some time.
samiro05
I only go on Playstation Home for bowling (Y)
samiro05
Oh and the Buzz: Quiz World trophy :)
ER_nut
ain’t that the only reason people go on Home ;)
TSBonyman
About the only time i visit now is when there’s a client update but i spent the first year grabbing all the rewards/freebies, (mostly tshirts and hats) and browsing the wardrobe was a chore then so the wardrobe changes will be welcome i’m sure.
The group chat anywhere is cool although not as cool as the open voice chat that existed in the first week.
A thought has just struck me – how much would you have to spend to buy/try everything in Home – must be a bleedin’ fortune at this stage.. :O
sesameseed
You could easily spend hundreds of pounds now on spaces, furniture, clothing and accessories if you were so inclined. And some people do…
freezebug2
Never bother with Home, as the last time I tried it way back, there were guys dressed as or using girl avatar’s with a swarm of guys hanging around them, which I thought was a bit sick. Plus the fact that it eats into proper gaming time. Maybe it has improved but I don’t have time for it.
Redh3lix
I kinda like the app tbh. It’s nice just wandering around and looking at all the latest videos and even watching trailers for upcoming films etc. Also not bad for the games you can play, e.g. Bowling, pool etc. It’s free and full of stuff, so I fail to see how anyone can dislike it tbh.
Sympozium
finally I can remove the movie costumes right?
Stef Nighthawk
They should integrate more of Home into the XMB.
Examples :
– Ability to show Home avatar on the friends list.
– Option to launch Home automically upon start of the PS3.
Home should have more trophy rewards, showcasing.
There is practically no incentive to launch Home.
DrNate86
The definitely, definitely need to have your avatar on the main menu, like the 360. The pictures are so bland.
Serebii.Net
I hate the Home Avatars because they try to hard to look real..
=/

Haven’t been on in ages because of the slow loading times and then it dl’ing areas that i have already dl’d! Is this still the case then?
Redh3lix
Hmmm, yeah, I’d say you haven’t been on in ages by the sounds of it. It’s changed a hell of a lot since launch. You can also specify the amount of HD space you would like to reserve for the app. making it even more faster.
As you haven’t been on in ages, you will have to re-download the areas, but only once. You certainly don’t download each visit.
Bilbo_bobbins
used it once, never again. Seems pointless to me. you can chat without Home anyway?
