TSA’s Top 100 of 2011 – #54 Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

The crossover, that weird alchemy of taking one property and physically transplanting it into another for the greater good. We’ve already debated the concept at length as part of this list, so let’s just stick to the facts this time; our third mash-up so far.

The eight in the Vs. series, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds sees everyone’s favourite super people from the Marvelverse meet up with the usual motley crew of bad dye-jobs and disproportionate misfits from Capcom’s to fight to the death. Of course, this is comic-book death, so expect no one to actually perish. Comic-book death™ is usually just a fantastic way of working in a new costume/super-power.

Dr. Doom has teamed up with Albert Wesker to actuate some sort of nefarious master-plan that will enslave both worlds. When they unleash an even more powerful and heinous force than themselves, it’s up to both teams of fashion-victims to unite and … Oh you know the rest without me even typing it.

A huge roster, frenetic battles, and gameplay that has managed to evolve without pissing off the franchise’s core followers, the third edition in the Marvel/Capcom unification is also the first to use three-dimensional characters rather than the 2D sprites.

We have something of a sweet-spot for MvC games, mostly because of our well-documented superhero addiction. Putting so many awesome folk in one game and then sprinkling on a generous helping of haddoken and tiger knees? We’re like that fat Star Wars kid let loose around Skywalker Ranch, running in circles and bumping into things, geeking out in never-ending nerd spasms.

The first Marvel Vs. Capcom game exclusive to consoles (okay, so maybe not all of the series’ fans are overjoyed with this one) expect Fate of Two Worlds to shoryuken onto European shelves on February 18th. And if it doesn’t? Well, bitch, I’ll make you suffer. (And if you get that reference, we might be BFFs for life.)

  1. That last reference from the SF2 Manga Kovacs? Rings a bell…
    Is it Vega??

    • In fact, i am pretty sure that it is – Isn’t it when Chun Li ruins his ‘beautiful face’??

  2. is that reference a Vega quote?

  3. Both correct. It’s Vega’s quote after Chun-Li ruins the bouncing Spaniard’s “beautiful face” in the animated movie. Right after *that* scene. You know the one I’m talking about. Don’t be coy.

    • I know the one. She has lovely eyes.

I actually really want to watch it again now – & no, not because of *that* scene! :)

  4. Looking forward to this one!

  5. Gonna get this for shure.

      • Chris has been confirmed since the start, he was one of the first 6 announced.

  8. Storm looks badass!

  9. Anyone else heard about the Jill Valentine and Suma Gorath DLC? Also can’t wait to play as Zero! (kinda wondering why Megaman isn’t in there tho. :P)
