Journeying to Warsaw, Poland last week to attend Witcher developer CD Projekt’s press conference about the Collector’s and Premium Editions of the game, Eurogamer got a chance to raise the question on many console gamers’ lips: When will The Witcher 2 come to the PS3 and Xbox 360? Well, it seems if console versions do happen, expect them a mere few months after the main PC edition.
Tomasz Gop, Executive Producer at CD Project, and CEO Marcin Iwiński are well aware of the demand. Iwiński states:
We’ve openly said our technology supports multiplatform. We know how many players, especially in the UK as well as in the US, play on Xbox 360. We are pretty good at maths. That’s all I can say for now.
Gop continued:
We already have performed a lot of tests. We’re doing a reality check every half a year or so. We take a level from the game and we try to put it inside our engine, because it’s console capable on Xbox 360 and PS3. It’s doable.
The first Witcher was famously set for a console outing before the studio pulled the rug from under it due to funding issues. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (the PC version at least) made our ongoing Top 100 Games of 2011 list, coming in at a respectable #92.
