Resistance 3: The Story So Far

So who’s looking forward to the Resistance 3 part of the VGAs? We certainly are, and we can’t wait to see more.  To tide us over Insomniac Games has done a round-up of various bits of R3 related goodness.  It really goes without saying that we are now entering R2 and R3 spoiler land.

“First of all, the main protagonist in Resistance 3 is Joseph Capelli, the Sentinel who (HUGE RESISTANCE 2 SPOILERS HERE… if you haven’t played it yet, go buy a Greatest Hits copy now!) was forced to kill Nathan Hale at the end of R2. Capelli was dishonorably discharged, and four years later is living in hiding with his wife, Susan, and son, Jack, along with other survivors in the town of Haven, Oklahoma.

He’s given up fighting, and is now just trying to hide and survive the Chimeran death squads that roam the planet. But when Dr. Malikov arrives with an opportunity to deliver a blow to the Chimera, Capelli embarks on a road trip to New York City. Resistance 3 is a tale of Capelli’s heroic journey across the country as he encounters the remnants of humanity left in the aftermath of the brutal invasion.”

Yes that’s right, the Chimera now have death squads.  There are also two categories of Chimera; ‘feral’ and ‘militarized’.  Apparently the feral kinds are a danger to everything – even other Chimera.

Do you want more?  Well Insomniac also had the following to say:

“Many folks have written to us with questions about gameplay, co-op, and multiplayer. A few quick answers: The weapon wheel returns, allowing Capelli to carry his entire arsenal and letting the player choose which weapons and strategies they want to use for each encounter.

New to Resistance 3 are upgradeable weapons, which will give your weapons new abilities and power as you continue to use them. In terms of co-op, we are focusing on a 2-player co-op through the single-player campaign, which can be played online with a friend, or split-screen on your couch. In terms of multiplayer, we are planning a much more focused, progression-based multiplayer experience. We’ll have many more details on the new campaign, enemies, multiplayer and weapons in the weeks to come as we head towards our Fall 2011 release.”

We are stoked to see the game in action; not long to go now!

  1. oooooooooooohh!

  2. Hmm, not quite the desperate and scrappy battle for survival I was hoping for then. The weapon wheel and upgradable weapons will eliminate any sense of survival horror. “Capelli’s heroic journey across the country” also doesn’t sound promising! I imagine it will still be a good game though, I have enjoyed the others, just not what I was hoping for after seeing the trailer. I like the idea of the death squads though!

    • I don’t know, fella. Remnants of humanity sounds promising. The weapon wheel might have zero impact on tense, frightful situations.

If they make him out to be the likes of Rambo then they’ve destroyed everything you and I were hoping for but it kinda sounds like they’ve “familied” him up a bit which puts this into intriguing territory.

That trailer wasn’t for naught, I hope.

  3. Everything I read there sounds like music to my ears. Especially the split-screen co-op part. I’ll pre-order this as soon as it’s available

    • then I guess I will be sitting on your couch a lot in fall 2011 ;)
although I might also get it myself :3

  4. This is like a Resistance fan’s wet dream- Two player splitscreen and online campaign co-op? Weapon wheel? Play as CAPELLI?

    So much win.

    • Wet dream? I’m already moist.

      • I hated Capelli in R2, but he looks like an awesome and intriguing character in this!

      • reminds me a bit of the main character from heavy rain but you know with a massive gun

  5. This looks good. Sounds like some really good changes.

  6. chimara gestapo? death squads sound kinda cool, cant wait for this. its good that they bring split screen coop back as thats what made res fom one of my fav games

  7. Sounds good, now if they don’t do the stupid trophies i will get this. But will hale make a camoe?

    • So you wont buy i game if it’s awesome just because it’s have a stupid trophy?

  8. I got R2 on day one, and I was a little let down by the lack of polish. I’m definitely getting this when it launches, as long as Insomniac decide to carry over that superb co-op content.

  9. SWEEEETTTTT!!!!!!! (wipes away drool)

  10. Can not wait! Online campaign yum :)
