New Game Launches From ‘Game Dev Story’ Team

Game Dev Story’s big around these parts – we’re all a little bit geeky and the iPhone update of the 1996 Japanese game is utterly brilliant and easily one of the best mobile releases last year.  We talked about it in depth here and although we’ve already mentioned there’s a sequel on the way, the developers have found time to fire out another game in the meantime.

That game is “Waiwai! The Game Dealer”, which is out now on the Japanese App Store. Instead of putting you in charge of a videogame development company, it puts you in charge of a videogame store, and is, by all accounts, just as good as the first game.

There’s stocks, the ability to sell food to your customers and, presumably, have really rubbish sales that actually inflate the prices of your overpriced first person shooters but feature a big red sticker anyway so that Joe Public buys two copies. We’re hoping for an English localisation if sales of the native language version are up to par, but if anyone fancies diving in regardless, let us know what it’s like.

All that Japanese hurts our heads. Well, most of us…

  1. I downloaded Game Dev Story, played it until nearly 4am then had to delete it… It would have been less addictive if I’d spent my money on heroin

  2. News Team, ASSEMBLE! *blows conch*
I will need to get Game Dev Story when I get my iPhone, and I’ll get this once it’s on the UK store, I suppose.
    Also, Angry Birds.

    • get an android instead, angry birds is free and the widgets are amazing.

  3. I really really want Game Dev Story, and this game now, but I already have a smart phone and dont want to buy an iPhone! I really hope they bring it to Steam as I think that is the only platform I have access to really (my phone isnt Android so that wouldnt help either!).

  4. Game Dev Story really is brilliant fun and is so addictive! Hope this comes to the UK iTunes store.

  5. Waiwai is an example of Japanese onomatopoeia. It means “noisy.”

    I’ll stop now.

  6. I bought Game Dev Story over the xmas break and my god did I get addicted. It was frustrating to start with but on my 3rd attempt of trying I managed to crack it and get a string of highly successful games and then ended up playing it for about 7 hours (not even on or off, literally 7 hours). Ive managed to break my addiction but now i am thinking about it I want to play it again

    • Me too, I deleted it, couldn’t stop playing it until my mrs bollocked me at 4am

  7. Just like to again hold up my green robotic hand and say that this game is available on Android phones too so you may want to change the icon to half Android half an apple or something … hmph ;)
