Mass Effect 2 Heading To PSN

BioWare has confirmed that the super-dooper, super fancy-pants version of Mass Effect 2 will be heading to the PS3 as both a retail and downloadable product. As far as we are aware this is the first time a major release will be available to download at the same time as it launches on the high street.  There has been no mention of price, or how big the download will be.

In addition EA has released the Mass Effect 2 launch trailer.  Enjoy!

  1. Would poeple that purchase the PSN ME2 be entitled to the ‘free’ DLC thats on the pre-order of the DISC version…..?

    • The free DLC that comes with ME2 isn’t a pre-order bonus, it’s included on the bluray, and will be included with PSN version.

      • There IS a pre-order DLC, a free gun and Armour…

      • The gun and armour isn’t pre-order, it’s free to anyone who buys the game before mid February. After that time it’s paid DLC :o)

      • Well non of the sites i’m looking at (including amazon, game stop and the official ME2 forum) state any pre-order DLC. And bio-ware have already said that the weapon and armor that was given as a pre-order bonus for the 360 version will be distributed through the cerebus network (an in game feature) or the PSN store for free. And i’m pretty sure that’s the weapon and armor your talking about.

        from the offical ME2 site:

Until February 23rd, 2011, Mass Effect 2 players on Playstation 3 can download the Terminus Armor and M-490 Blackstorm Projector Weapon free of charge from the PSN Store.

      • hope it will be available to everyone as an individual download. Im not sure when im getting the game but I always download free dlc for games I dont have, if there a strong possibility that ill be getting it in the future

    • thankyou for clarification…oohhh big word

      • That’s not a big word. This is a big word, hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia.

It means fear of big words!

  2. I like the idea of games being released digitally day and date with retail. I’ve already have ME1&2 for 360 though, so this doesn’t particularly benefit me. Hopefully more games start doing this going forward. I’m a big fan of digital distribution and would certainly support it for major releases and exclusives that i have no intention of trading in.

    • Why?

      • I like the convinience of being able to purchase my games straight from the console. I like having my games stored on the console. I don’t hate physical media, but there certainly games that I’d just as soon purchase digitally as opposed to retail. A big part of it also has to do with the fact that I live in the cayman islands and it takes days or weeks for new releases to become available here and the cost is much higher. I pay about US$90-US$105.00 for a retail game. Digital distribution allows me to purchase games at the base cost and not have to worry about import fees and duties.

      • Fair enough! Makes sense! Thanks!

  3. I’ve already pre-ordered the disc version – at a discount, plus I doubt there’s room on my hard drive for a file of this size.

    • I imagine that the disc based ME2 will have an install option anyway, but clearly a bit less than the PSN’s ME2 MEGA file version

  4. It’s good to have a choice. I’ve played the demo twice but i’ve not fully made up my mind about getting it yet. Mainly because there’s a few other titles imminent that i know are going to eat up a lot of my time. Probably not a day one purchase for me but if they can match or better the lowest retail price near me i might go for the download option.

  5. yes, its a busy month what with Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space 2 !
    Then February Killswitch 3, sorry …Killzone 3….

  6. This doesn’t bother me as after getting the demo it has gone from a day 1 purchase to a maybe in the near future once I have nothing else to play or have a bit of change left over purchase as i found the demo rubbish and found that the game isn’t for me as much as other people.

  7. EA = not buying nuf said.

why buy the psn version when it will be more expensive and youll need to swap your harddrive much sooner

  8. Buying at retail, alot more incentives

  9. I played the demo and I think I enjoyed it, although I’m guessing that if I knew the story I would have found demo more sensical. Luckily that will be ammended on the actually release due to the pre story being included ( or somethin along those lines) anyway, my question is- how ‘big’ (length) is the game itself? Are we talking ff7 kinda big, or more uncharted size? If it’s a massive game then I would be more inclined to purchase a digital copy.

    • Again, why?

What is the benefit of a digital copy?

      • Advantages Of Digital Download

Although it takes ages to download its still faster than the post in all most all cases, Easy to find the Item you’re looking for and it can be played almost instantly if a small file size e.g. Minis or some PSN Game demos, Faster Loading, dont have to change disk, its always there when you want to play it (it can’t be left behind), every things in one place and easy to find, if taking ur ps3 round your friends its all u need; no bulky game box to carry or game disks to scratch. if ur ps3 Or HDD bricks its self it can always be re-downloaded on a new one!

        Disadvantages Of Digital Download

When downloading games allot of the PS3s functions are unusable bucause they will stop the download like playing online, blu-ray games are usaly more expensive on the PStore, downloading big games or lots of games/demos may cause you to go over your Download Limit and cost you more, if you’re going round a friends house and you just want to bring one game you can’t!, Downloaded games CAN’T be lent to a Friend or Resold so when your bord of it or buy it and think its just not for you then your FUCKED!

This was all original ideas of Me (X_Yoshy_X) Not Copyed off another site! Just thought i would mention that :)

      • well if you insist on justification for my own choice as a sentient being, then i will indulge you ‘tactical’
if i purchase the digital version, the game won’t get ‘forgotten’ amongst the other big releases that are due to drop around the same time. if the story is as lengthy as i’m led to believe it is, it woul be my preference to have it on my hdd, so i can dip in and out ( as i have done for the past 3 years with warhawk ).
i know what kind of gamer i am and how easy it can be to be attracted to the next ‘shiny new release’
get off your high horse mate, and let people do what they want, without you questioning their motives..

    • My playthrough took about 40+ hours. But that was doing all the side quests and going for most of the achievements. Thing is, it didn’t feel like 40 hours at all. It’s the kind of game that you sit down to play and suddenly 6 hours have passed and your wife is pissed. If you’re just going through the story with out worrying about the side quest or spending time going through the dialog with all the characters (which would be a shame) then i’d say about 25 hours.

  10. I see you got my tweet then…I’m PhillyC18 btw on twitter.
