Mass Effect 2 Heading To PSN

BioWare has confirmed that the super-dooper, super fancy-pants version of Mass Effect 2 will be heading to the PS3 as both a retail and downloadable product. As far as we are aware this is the first time a major release will be available to download at the same time as it launches on the high street.  There has been no mention of price, or how big the download will be.

In addition EA has released the Mass Effect 2 launch trailer.  Enjoy!

  1. It’ll be a big download… Steam one was over 11gb!

    • Well yes, but the PC version also has higher resolution textures etc. etc. Even so, I’d imagine it’d be 6-8GB minimum.

      • If it was on 2 discs on the Xbox then it would be over 8Gb.. And if it has all the DLC then I would guess it would be about 9-10Gb :P

      • Seems it’s going to be 12GB in total.

    • This is the future I think. They’ll be testing to see the ratio of download to shop sales. PS4 won’t have a disc drive and you will only be able to play donwloads or cloud games. Mark my words :-)

      I wouldn’t mind betting the price for both version will be exactly the same. Going on past pricing strategies they’ll be no reduction to mirror the reduced production costs a digital download offers the publishers.

  3. GT5: Prologue was pretty major. It came out on the same day as retail release.

    Just saying.

  4. Considering it comes on 2 discs for the 360, I’m guessing it will be a large download. :)

  5. It’ll be a massive download and more expensive than in the stores or online. Why would people pay the extra in money and time?

    • My thoughts exactly. Someone must be though for these companies to still bother!

    • I can only guess that people will negate the need to wait for the post (if ordering on the day itself) and the extra few sheets spent will offset the enjoyment from it loading locally (HDD) instead of from a disc; especially as it’s a big ol’ game to play and will take quite a hammering.

      From my perspective, I couldn’t give a crap. I’m not getting either! :-)

    • well im guessing if you gameshare it it will be 10-15 dollars maybe.. thats if it is shareable?

  6. I hate these kind of trailers where the text is so fast you have to pause it to read what it says XO
    Anyway, I’m guessing the file size is going to be about 10gb…

  8. not for me after he awful demo, the demo was about 2.5 gb so i expect this to be a lot

  9. If it was cheaper to download, maybe I’d see the point, but the fact it’s probably gonna be more expensive, and it’s gonna take up loads of space, surely makes it completely pointless/shit.

    Why anyones response would be ‘OMG AWESOME!!!!’, I have no idea?

  10. Also, it’s £5 on 360 right? Wait a month or so and I reckon it will be down to £20 on PS3.
