Square Enix Register Final Fantasy XIII-2 Domain

Advance warning: this may not be what you think it is. Square Enix have registered a domain name hinting at a possible spin-off to their flagship franchise, Final Fantasy. Much akin to how Final Fantasy X received a second chance with the Yuna-focused Final Fantasy X-2, Lightning and Snow may get another outing in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

The source of the speculation is URL finalfantasy13-2game.com, registered by Registrant Corporation Service Company who have locked down website domains for Square Enix in the past.

It could be a new HD edition of the ubiquitous series, or it could be a mobile game for all we know. We may find out more at Square Enix’s media event this week.

  1. Hope its a sequel, the ending was good, but id hope *Spoiler* V & F re awoke some day in the future

    • spoiler, Adamantoise become Hello Kitty Dolls
But if it turns out to be like X-2. It will be a OMFG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • adamantoise… noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    • ***SPOILER****
Was thinking the same. How can they keep the team together? Very intriguing as they wernt friends or anything before. Maybe a Dragon Age esque DLC set?

  2. Sweet. I hope this turns out to be a PS3 game. Loved XIII despite all the hate it received. Bring it!

    • I’m with you there. It took over 80 gaming hours from me. A smashing game.

      • 104 hours on my Platinum Trophy savegame and playing it a second time now because the girlfriend wants to enjoy the story but can’t handle the difficult fights. :D

    • Lost my platinum save with YLOD. Along with VII, VIII, IX, X and XII saves. You cant imagine how gutted i was at the time. Thinking about it nearly brings a tear to my eye :'(

  3. Could it not have something to do with “versus”? I know it is pretty late in the production to register it.

  4. I hope it’s a sequel aswell, loved FFXIII…

  5. Looking at the comments. Why was the game so commercially damned and critically downbeat. I thought it was fantastic. Why cant some reviewers review it for the new player rather than stick. “Still not as good as FFVII…” Because of the new consoles i doubt everyone who played XIII played VII.

    • Same here. When I played it I thought of it as a HD Next Generation RPG, rather than a classic Final Fantasy game. With the stunning visuals and great story, you didn’t need to go off exploring on your own (which you could do once you completed the game anyway). I thought as well that the game was just like X, which was a little linear too. Also could you imagine how long it would have taken to create and render a huge game like the size of the previous ones.

      • 7 discs for the XBox360 version… :P

  6. Good to see some love for XIII from TSA members. Love the game, will go back and platinum it one day! About half way there at the moment, only another 60-70 hours to go!

Don’t know if I could handle a sequel this soon, and with Versus and XIV on the way too! I might have to overload on gorgeous CGI goodness!!!

  7. there was a great world in there, once you got down to gran pulse is was absolutely gorgeous too, make it less linear and most importantly for me, don’t have arbitrary limits on levelling.

the linearity i could live with, it’s nice not getting lost in a game for a change, but not letting me grind to make the combat a little easier, especially with some of the hardest bloody boss fights i’ve seen in any final fantasy, probably hardest because i couldn’t level past the bosses level to make myself stronger than them.

    • Really? I grinded to the Chrystarium Max every time the guide showed me a good spot and I never really had any trouble with any boss fights. Some took 2-3 attempts but with the right strategy things were a decent challenge that never really got frustrating.
What fights are you talking about?

  8. I’m a massive FF fan and I still haven’t got round to finishing XIII yet. Perhaps I’m just too used to the likes of VI, VII, VIII and IX to warm to this new style.

X-2 was the gayest thing I’d ever played so I would hope this doesn’t go along a similar route. There’s not really been a decent FF spin-off yet.

  9. I was really dissapointed with XIII. I loved the story, setting and characters, but felt that the gameplay was too kiddified. Only controlling one character at a time, auto health regen after each fight, too linear. I still prefer the non-linear, Fixed camera VII, VIII and IX. Where you only regenerated health etc when resting or using save points and it wasn’t a case of just constantly pushing forward on the controller and pressing X a few times.

Saying that, i would still be open to a sequel :)

  10. I think im in a minority here but the ff series has been in a decline since ff 7. ff8 had a horrible combat system, idiotic storyline and unlikable characters, ff 10 and 10-2 have the most annoying set of characters imaginable,a stupid-ass story and the most ridiculous sport ever featured in a video game blitzball.
FF 13 was a massive disappointment for me after ff 12 which i quite liked and was hoping for more of the same but no What we got was one of the most linear rpg’s i have ever played. to start off at the beginning of the game we are put into the middle of a battle that we know nothing about and don’t know who any of the characters are and given no introduction we have to wait a good 10 hours until we know a little about their back story and the leveling up system gives you no choice over what stats or what you want your character to be it’s just getting to the middle of the crystals and then moving on to the next level, also the music compared to past ff games is “meh” and the battle system involves the game playing it’s self basically. but thats enough ranting from me, I don’t want to hate the ff series and ff 6 is my fav game ever made but square enix need to get off there arse and concentrate on making a ff game that will please the old and new school fans.

    • Really? You rant about not knowing anything about the characters for the first 10 hours and mention FF7 as pretty high on your list where you know nothing about the main protagonist for almost the entire game?
      I liked FFXIII’s music…

      • It wasn’t as much as not knowing anything about the main character, it felt like it was the middle of the game not the start. In ff 7 when i started the game it felt like the start of the game not a game half way through

      • Can’t see the real difference… In XIII you are escaping from a purge transport, fighting soldiers. In VII you are blowing up a mako reactor, fighting soldiers. In both cases you are thrown into the action right from the start finding out more about the characters as you progress.
