Portal 2 Gets PS3/PC/Mac Cross-Platform Play

So it turns out Gabe Newell wasn’t kidding when he said the PS3 version of Portal 2 would be the best console version, as Valve has just confirmed that it will feature cross-platform play with PC & Mac owners. Also on the cards is cross-platform chat, as well as “persistent cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games”.

In addition to that fantastic bit of news, the PS3 copy of Portal 2 will also come with a key for the PC & Mac version. Valve head honcho, Gabe Newell, had the following to say:

“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product. Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”

Let’s try and keep any mention of cake to a minimum, shall we?

  2. I hope this will happen too more games in the future so i can play with friends that will never buy a consol.

  3. I hope that the whole linking PSN accounts and steam accounts thing, reported elsewhere in relation to this story, doesn’t mean that the game can only be played on one PSN account for one purchase. That would suck, as the main reason I am buying the PS3 version is in the hope that I can play on my PC in co-op with my brother on the PS3, all for one purchase of the game.

    • Hmmm Can’t see how cloud saves will work unless your PSN account is linked to Steam, on the other hand it will have to work for offline PS3 customers with non-cloud (perhaps standard PS3) saves

  4. multiple copies same price? if only all games had that…
