Nintendo has announced that a new Kirby game will be hitting Japan this year and it will be developed by HAL Labs. Rather disappointingly the trailer shows that the visual style of Kiby’s Epic Yarn has been ditch in favour of a more traditional looking game. Of course, we Europeans are still waiting for Kirby’s Epic Yarn, which is due out next month.

This looks very much like the N64 game of Kirby, what was that name again, The Crystal Shards or something. Think I’ll go for Epic Yarn, love that style although this isnt bad either

I don’t think it’s particularly disappointing that it doesn’t look like Epic Yarn. I mean, Epic Yarn was absolutely charming, but if this one goes in a different direction, more power to it. And quite possibly, it’s not only the looks but the mechanichs that are different enough for it not to be Epic Yarn 2 (which by all means might happen in the future, and would be great too). It’s not like Nintendo aren’t constantly taking Kirby to all kinds of places.
Now, I wish Nintendo hadn’t scrapped the (originally) Gamecube version of Kirby’s Tilt and Tumble. I only saw a video of it, from some E3 or other, but I was instantly in love with the idea, and it would make so much more sense on the Wii…

I don’t have a Wii, but I like me good Kirby game. And I think that while Epic Yarn looks kool, this seems to be classic Kirby with eating stuff and stealing powers and if I had a Wii I’d buy both.

I’m in the same situation. I really like the Kirby character and it’s great that he’s being shown some love this generation in good looking games. Now all I need is a Wii.
