NGP/PSP2 OS Not Android

Though it appears Sony are snuggling up quite closely to the Android OS of late, with news that PlayStation Suite will see some PlayStation games made available on the mobile platform, Sony’s Kaz Hirai has confirmed that, despite speculation, the NGP/PSP2’s operating system is not a flavour (gingerbread or otherwise) of the Google OS. Hirai said:

Internally, PSP2 uses an original games-oriented operating system. It’s not Android. Different from the PSP, the OS has a modern framework akin to a PC.

The latter half of the statement referencing the system’s “PC qualities” adds some credence to recent reports that, unlike previous Sony hardware, the NGP is notably easier to develop for.

During the reveal in Tokyo last week a ported PSN game (Dungeon Defenders) was shown running on the new device, with developers claiming the conversion process took “about a week.”

  1. I just hope it’s a secure OS that doesn’t get hacked to bits like the PSP did. And it’s good to hear that ports are quick.

  2. So whats the peoples choice then guys? Psp2 or the ds 3d? leave ya comments bellow ;D

    • PSP2 but if it will be on launch it all depends on the price. 3ds too many ps3 games are releasing around it and I’m not that fussed into any Nintendo hardware for some reason.

      • PSP2.
Never really got into games on my Gameboy other than Pokemon, but I love my PSP library.

  3. Seeing as Android has been hacked i was not expecting to see it on the PSP2. By PC quailties do they mean it will have a decent browser? It’s easier to develop for which could mean that we may see a lot of new ips and MGS 3 rereleased on it with a few things changed.:D

  4. My First post here :D
