To comply with certain rating board guidelines in Japan regarding the portrayal of real persons and countries, Japanese publisher Spike have been forced to remove North Korean leader Kim Jong-il from Homefront’s opening movie in the Japenese version of THQ’s girtty first person shooter. Instead he will be replaced with a “Northern Leader” of “A Certain Country to the North,” which has yet to be specified.
With the entire focus of the game being the North Korean invasion, it will be interesting to see what alternative will be drafted in for the Japanese release. Though several onlookers have jokingly suggested that Canada may now be Homefront’s main antagonist, to avoid any sort of ill-representation, it’s likely Spike will enlist a factitious tyrannical nation.
Homefront is due to launch here on March 11th, and at a later date of April 29th in Japan.
