Inversion To Launch Next February

One game which may have slipped off your radar in the past few months is Inversion, Namco Bandai’s third person shooter they unveiled at last year’s Gamescom. Today, the publisher has announced that the game is due to land next year; February 7th to be precise, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Developed by Saber Interactive, creators of 2007’s unique yet ultimately flawed Timeshift, Inversion follows the struggle of street cop Davis Russel as he suddenly becomes the hero when an alien race come knocking. Aside from the staple cover-based gunfights, Gears of War references, and maybe even a cheeky fist bump or two,  Inversion sports a number of gameplay mechanics which revolve around Russel’s ability to manipulate gravity.

Not only will you be able to throw your enemies around like toys and pick up objects, there will also be several Zero-G sections for good measure. The game is also said to feature a co-op story campaign as well as competitive multiplayer, though these haven’t been detailed as of yet.

So far it sounds awesome, and looks great too. However, as a very recent example has shown us, if Inversion doesn’t manage to get the base mechanics sorted, it could end up to be another write-off, no matter how many gravity-related gimmicks you throw at it.

  1. Looks pretty good, hopefully see some more in the coming months

  2. Unless the noobs stop buying CoD, no other shooter will do well IMO

    • By “do well” do you mean in terms of sales? CoD will dominate this area year upon year until Activision simply lose the will to keep pumping them out or unless consumers flock to a “better” shooter (Brink, KillZone 3, Battlefield 3, who knows?)

However, note that Inversion is a third person shooter, and so far no single franchise clearly dominates the genre.

  3. Interesting concept. I honestly thought this game had been laid to rest.

  4. This and mind jack or whatever it’s called really reminds me of Psi-Ops, which was an awesome game, still waiting on a sequel from Midway, now Neatherrealm Studios.

  5. I’d like to see a good 3rd person shooter. Hope this is something to look forward to.
