The Darkness II Announced

2K Games has officially announced The Darkness II for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The sequel to The Darkness will be released in fall 2011 and will not be developed by Starbreeze Studios this time around. Instead, the game is being developed by Digital Extremes, the team responsible for Dark Sector and the PS3 port of BioShock.

The Darkness II takes place two years after the events of the first game. Jackie Estacado, who is now a mob boss, hasn’t been using his supernatural powers since he avenged his girlfriend’s murder. After an unprovoked attack on his life, a mob war breaks out and the powers of The Darkness are once again unleashed.

The game will feature “Quad-Wielding” gameplay mechanics that will allow players to use their Demon Arms to decimate enemies while simultaneously blasting them with both weapons in hand. Comic book writer Paul Jenkins will be providing a narrative that promises to “weave dark humor with hardcore tenderness.”

Marc Silvestri, the founder and CEO of Top Cow Productions and co-creator of The Darkness, had this to say:

So often disappointed when a favorite character gives birth to a lame movie or video game, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it. But not with The Darkness II.

Yeah, call me biased, but this second installment of Jackie Estacado’s epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I’ve ever played. 2K Games hammered this one out of the park.

While Silvestri’s words are indeed very biased, there is still reason to be excited. Let’s just hope that Digital Extremes doesn’t let us down.

  1. Groovy. Lets hope the PS3 version isn’t sub-par this time.

  2. Oh yes please! Loved the first game. Nothing quite as satisfying as ripping out a few hearts, throwing a few cars, spawning a demon with a gattling gun and then sucking them all into a wormhole!

  3. I was really impressed with the first one and it’s a game that deserved a sequel.

  4. I enjoyed the first one but it was just not quite there. Great story telling and film-noire cinematic but the control lacked a little something.

  5. I remember watching my bro playing this a few years ago, I remember there was a TV with an episode of Popeye on :) And he just bought it again yesterday. Spooky!

  6. I must get the darkness. How much is it now?

  7. About £2.50!

  8. the mrs has the 1st on on xbox, may give it a go

  9. I enjoyed the first one and have been waiting for them to announce the sequel. Mike Patton’s voice ftw.

  10. The darkness was the first game I owned for my ps3 and was my first hd experience. I can’t wait for the second installment to what i thought was a brilliant if slightly flawed game.
