Keeping their promise that Portal 2 on the PS3 will be the best console version available, Valve has confirmed that the PS3 edition will be fully PlayStation Move compatible. The developer has already confirmed cloud-based game saving, cross-PC gaming support, while the PlayStation 3 version even comes with a free – yes, you read that right, free – Steam code for the PC version of the game.
Valve’s Chet Faliszek explains the love:
We made a mistake back then and gave the Orange Box console versions to an external team. They did a good job, but didn’t quite achieve the same quality level that we have at Valve. Now everything happens in-house, we created a special console department just for that.
So the move to the PlayStation 3 comes late – we’re sorry for that. As a small compensation we have PS3-exclusive cloud saving, a free code for PC and complete PlayStation Move support.
Look at it as a compensation for Left 4 Dead.

The news on Portal 2 just keeps on getting better and better.
Here’s a question for people. What do we think the pricing point is going to be? There’s a lot of content being sounded out with it so I presume it’s going to be the full £40?

That’s a good point. Portal 1 wasn’t very long, depending on how good you were with the puzzles. But it was not intended as a full game I do not think. I think this time round it will be a bit longer but more intriate puzzles, so people won’t wind paying the full 40 just for portal on its own (as opposed to the collection of three games in the orange box) this time.

This sounds bally interesting…

I am actually more excited that I get a free PC version too. I was thinking of getting that instead but this way I can get both for not much more than I would have paid for just the PC version (I assume)

This is friggin brilliant! This game has just become a must buy for me now. Cloud saving, free pc version AND move support!

Bought Portal on XBLA when it was on sale a while back and never finished it (only played the demo on Mac Steam).
I’ll finish that up right before Portal 2 comes out and jump into the PS3 version with the story fresh in my head.
MOVE
“So the move to the PlayStation 3 comes late – we’re sorry for that.”
So, the Move compability comes sometime after the game is released?

I read that more in connection to the previous sentence where Valve were late to support the PS3 in general.

I think I’m on the last level of Portal, but I haven’t really had time to finish it. Will definitely be picking up P2 sometime.

You’d know if you were on the last level of Portal. It’s pretty obvious.

‘As a small compensation we have PS3-exclusive cloud saving, a free code for PC and complete PlayStation Move support.’
Not exactly a ‘small’ compensation, the PS3 version will easily outsell its 360 counterpart, if they announce something else, they’ll be completely different games.
