Home Reaches 1.5, Gets New Features

PlayStation Home continues to grow, finding much favour with those that frequent the online service – it’s evolved considerably since the early days, and whilst it still appears alien to outsiders, Home has plenty of fans who have found the virtual spaces to be something of a regular haunt.

Indeed, Sony are boasting some great numbers tonight during the GDC conference: 19 million downloads with an average online session lasting around 70 minutes.  The recent racing game Sodium, part of Home’s rapidly expanding array of built-in entertainment, has seen 1.6 million people trying it out – impressive.

But the big news is version 1.5, which is set to hit our screens sometime in Spring.  This new version of Home will sport online multiplayer, better graphics and animation, richer physics and a bigger focus on games – from, we’re told, “first-person shooters with real-time, peer-to-peer multiplayer to kart racers and more”.

As if to verify these claims, Sony have released a trailer for Lockwood’s SodiumTwo.

  1. I liked home during the closed beta, when people would start ramdom conversations, its lost that now and people just run around by themselves. i just hope all the new games arnt overpriced tat and are enjoyable to play

  2. Hav’t been on home since I failed to get in the TSA photo a little while back. May give it another go if it’s getting a face lift.

  3. Give me the ability to have friends over my flat to listen to the music on my hdd or watch the movies and check out my trophy cabinet. Allow trophies to be earned in the games on home. Stop making me queue to play games. If you do all those things, I may give it a whirl.

    • Thats exactly what i want Home to do. Plus be able to listen to my own music off the HDD at any time while using Home

      • and i wanna be able to decorate my home space with pictures from my HDD. I want a nice family picture on the wall

  4. Defintely visiting it this weekend. Got some Playstation Admin to do first then gonna hit this.

Must renew my PS+ – miss it :-(

  5. If 1.6m have tried out Sodium, I’d say that figure is more relevant than the downloads number as it gives us an insight into the number of active users – The number of users could even drift downwards of this if its safe to assume that Sodium would have been big enough to receive a spike of people checking it out.

IMO 1.6m active users is quite impressive for the rather niche product.

  6. I quite like the look of SodiumTwo. Reminds me of Wipeout, which I have played for ages.

  7. Hmm, may have to pop back into Home again.

  8. Interesting, this could be the reason that some people need to return.

  9. Yea soon as i seen the tailer i thought wipeout but different name. will check out anyhow.

  10. I liked Sodium 1 so will try out Sodium 2
