MotorStorm UK Release Delayed

It was reported yesterday that a possible delay to the UK release of MotorStorm Apocalypse was being considered. Sony has now confirmed that a delay is indeed happening:

“Although we have shipped the game into the channel last week, given that we are able to do so, we have chosen to postpone the launch in the UK. In the meantime we will continue to monitor the situation very closely.

We are shocked and saddened to see the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and our thoughts are with all those affected, including our colleagues within the Sony family, living and working throughout Japan.

We are very conscious of the parallels between these events and the underlying theme in MotorStorm and are doing everything we can to be as sensitive as possible to the situation. Although the game itself is already in distribution, we are ceasing any further shipments and removing as much of the marketing materials as possible.”

We will keep you updated as and when more information appears.

  1. Classy move.

    • Are you being sarcastic? I can’t quite tell. :)

  2. Sensible

  3. Good move, totally understanding.

  4. weak. The game isn’t set in Japan.

    • No, but it’s set in a city being ravaged by earthquakes. The themes are consistent between real life and the game, whatever the actual setting. That setting could just as easily have actually been Japan, since Evolution simply picked a city in the world that sits not too far off from a major fault line.

      • I’m not convinced that people would have actually made the connection to be honest. Also, will it really be any different in a few weeks playing the game – especially now that Sony have highlighted the correlation. Overall I think I was a bad move by Sony, not because it could potentially have a negative impact on sales but because it fails to accept the harshness of reality that is reflected in many games rolling out of production.

    • Empathizing with and showing respect towards the japanese people is now being weak? … It was the right call.

    • I fully agree Spotter

  5. Whole heartedly agree.

I’m not usually one for agreeing with a Tv show being postponed for some vague connection to a news article, but this altogether different.

    • that’s I agree with the decision taken not the above comment which appeared whilst typing on my slow ass phone.

  6. Mine was shipped this morning from Play (had credit), so this was a day or two late to try and actually stop the release completely.

However, it’s good to see a bit of sensitivity out there. It’s a bit like the Apple stores in Japan simply using their steady(ish) internet connections and plethora of computers to help people contact others, providing water and food for free. It’s just the logical thing to do.

    • it makes perfect sense.

    • I received two emails from ShopTo for ‘account charge’ and ‘order receipt’. When checking order history on their site it says ‘processing’ so I have no idea if it’s been sent or not.

      • game have taken the money for mine but it went from awaiting dispatch to processing..its the right move but most gamers wont agree that it is.

      • I don’t mind if it’s delayed.

    • Yep same tef, just looked at my email and there it was, the dispatch notice… Agree fully with the decision to delay though.

      • Luckily for us, we get to agree with the delay, but not have to go without the game for 2+ weeks ;)

  7. Good move.

  8. it makes sense, but are they postponing it from all countries or just the uk? I’m guessing all.

  9. Seems like the sensible, and thoughtful, course of action. Good on ’em.

  10. It is a good move and I can wait still would feel bad playing Motorstorm with a smile on my face thinking how awesome it is. I was in great mood when playing the Demo on Thursday evening last week =(
