Sniper Elite Is Getting A Sequel

Oxford-based developer, Rebellion, have today announced Sniper Elite V2, the follow-up to their World War II stealth shooter which debuted in 2005. The team behind other FPS titles including Shellshock 2, Rogue Trooper, and more recently Alien vs Predator, will be working alongside publisher 505 games, aiming for a 2012 release for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Though Rebellion’s repertoire is far from perfect, Sniper Elite is considered one of their finest works, and as World War II begins to slip out of gaming fashion, they may have found themselves the perfect niche for a comeback.

Last year saw the release of City Interactive’s Sniper: Ghost Warrior,a game with a similar concept, and though ambitious it failed to win big with critics, slated mainly for its lack of variation and under-refined enemy AI. A PlayStation 3 version of the game is set to launch next week.

  1. HOLY CRAP, this has to be one my favourite PS2 games. I never thought I’d see a sequel to it, Cant wait for it. :)

  2. This is seriously some of the best news I’ve read in recent times. Absolutely loved this game on PS2 and still have a copy.
    I’ve always thought a sequel would translate well to PS3 with the extra technological power available to them.
    Absolutely fantastic news.

    Now for that Steambot Chronicles sequel … ;)

  4. Rebellion? Wont get to mcuh hyp from them. Looked really forward too AVP but then it was crap :(

  5. Never actually played a sniper game, but always enjoyed popping melons in certain levels through various other FPS!

    Well excited to play this!
