‘Need For Speed: The Run’ Outed

It seems ShopTo has let the cat out of the bag by Tweeting a link to a game called ‘Need for Speed: The Run’. The link was almost instantly removed, but not before I got a glance at the game’s description.

It seems that a dash across country is in order.

A Need for Speed: The Run domain name has also been registered by EA. After Hot Pursuit last year, and Shift 2 this year, is the Need for Speed market becoming overcrowded?

Update: ShopTo has uploaded a teaser trailer for the game here. How very Hollywood!

Thanks to Kinectronic for the domain name heads up

  1. Yet another series to file under “cash cow! Milk it! Miiiiilk iiiit!” with an annual update. Whatever makes the devs/publishers money, I guess. We’re all feeling the pinch of recession, and new IPs don’t always make the best financial sense. Still, just ‘cos I don’t like it (Grid>Shift 2), that won’t stop it selling by the bucket load.

  2. “Hey, I’ve got an idea for a game based on that awesome 70’s movie, Vanishing Point. Drive from Denver to San Francisco, against the clock”.
“Reckon we can splash Need for Speed logos all over it?”
“Uh, sure, but it’d just br a rip off of Vanishing Point with NfS logos all over it…”
    “OK, done. Next?”

  3. Does this mean we’re not getting a new Road Rash?

  4. Havent compleTed hot pursuit yet. Not keen on shift, not interested in this.

  5. i’d love to work for ea.

  6. One NfS game every November with Criterion & Black Box alternating developing duties and another game under the Shift brand every 2-ish years, although its a tad overkill, as long as they’re good I’ve no problem.
Although I’ll be sure Acti will get criticised for doing this when Sledghammer step-in to make interim titles between Treyarch’s & IWs
