We’re seeing stories appear around the web about the PSN not returning until the 31st of May. After a quick dig deeper, it seems that these stories have all sprung up after a statement made to Bloomberg by Shigenori Yoshida in which he states that the company’s plan to return full services by the 31st May is unchanged.
Many stories we’ve seen are concerned that what that statement means is that the PSN will not be back online before then – making it six weeks of total downtime for the service. We’re more inclined to believe that the statement is actually just a reaffirmation of the previously stated goal to get the Store up by the end of the month. Other services were supposed to start rolling out last week but have obviously missed that rough target. We still expect that Sony are working to get those services up and running long before the Store’s targeted reinstatement at the end of the month.
Hopefully SCE can cut this speculation off quickly by offering another statement on the issue as soon as possible. They do seem to have gone quiet again since missing the deadline for some resumption of services.

Thank you so much for reporting this story properly. The comments elsewhere have been absolute dribble. Good to know actual journalism exists.

I think even the most patient PS3 owner is getting tired of this. I’m not that patient, so I was tired of this debacle a while now. i have an XBOX with Gold, but my preference is the PS3!
C’mon SONY!!!

Someone has already touched on this but PS+ people are getting royally screwed if the store is not back up in the next 10 days. It has to be 30 days free on top of the days the psn has been down, bolted onto the end of our subscriptions.
The return to the communications blackout is again frustrating and will push people away further. I know we’re annoyed but devs must be livid, their businesses and jobs are at stake.
I know that I have cancelled Brink on the PS3 and ordered it on the 360 because I’m lucky enough to be in that position.
Part of the frustration is that there is so much emphasis on online multiplayer nowadays that the singleplayer modes are neglected and either too short with no replayability or just plain pants.
Lets just hope we’re not kept in the dark for too long.

so glad this didn’t happen in winter

I actually don’t care anymore. I only used PSN for the TSA meets and messing around with some people. And purchasing things from the store.I would imagine that there is a lot of p*ssed off pubilshers by now who have been unable to sell their content on the store.

Good things come to those who wait :-)

I find this hilarious and Sony are getting exactly what they deserved.
The PSN will come back online in a week or so, then immediately go down again once they realise their new security system cannot handle the load.
I will watch this with much glee and laughter after being told again and again by PS3 fanboys that the “Free” PSN is “Just as good” as XBox Live…
Pahahaha
