According to a report on Eurogamer, the Xbox 360 is due to get full stereoscopic 3D. “Full-on HDMI 1.4 stereoscopic 3D in the 1280×1470 twin 720p framebuffer configuration,” says the site.
This would match what the PlayStation 3 currently offers, and the source of the information seems to think an E3 reveal for the tech is on the cards.
“The machine is not only very capable,” says the source, “it’s more capable than the PlayStation 3 of doing stereo, assuming you don’t have one of the old crappy ones with the composite leads… assuming you have a HDMI Xbox.”
Current 3D Xbox 360 games force two 720p images into the same frame buffer, but this method will give each eye a ‘proper’ 720p image.
Microsoft have said that they “do not comment on rumour or speculation.”

Good news, but after watching Alice in Wonderland on 3D Blu-Ray last night, I’m fully convinced that the future of 3D lies in films, at least until more capable consoles arrive.

Hmm,didn’t MS say that they weren’t interested in 3D a few months back? if the rumours are true that is.I personally don’t like 3D as it adds nothing to the experience in my opinion. I would imagine that Halo and GOW would be one of the first 3D games on the xbox.
Watchful
A couple of months ago there was this:
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/02/26/is-microsoft-ready-to-embrace-3d/
Go back a year and there’s this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/microsoft/7714134/Microsoft-and-LG-bring-3D-gaming-to-Xbox-360.html
They’re interested, there just hasn’t been much of a market to sell into. Remember they are not trying to use 3D gaming to sell you their range of 3D TVs. Obviously there are now enough 3D TVs out there to make it worth their while investing more widely in the tech.
grimm
Go away 3D, we do not need you! :)

Ive seen the excuse that MS didnt put 3D on the xbox because they wasnt trying to sell 3D tv’s like Sony were… It does make me laugh whenever I read this extremely lame excuse… I especially laugh when I look at my Samsung 3D TV and my Friends LG 3D TV… I mean why would Sony push something to help sell other companies TVs (as well as their own I’m sure)
Maybe… JUST Maybe, Sony (and the movie industry too) pushed 3D because its at the cutting edge of tech for entertainment right now and not as many people say Sony spending millions and pushing game devs to help people (like myself) spend lots of money on TVs that arnt even made by Sony.
