Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is the king of the first-person shooter genre, at least by sales volume anyway. But Electronic Arts hopes that can all change with the help of their Battlefield franchise, which is why the war of words between EA and Activision will not stop.
EA predicts that the days of Call of Duty dominance are numbered, and it’s only a matter of time before Battlefield takes the retail crown.
Speaking to MCV, EA’s European senior vice president, Jens Uwe Intat, was confident that the superiority of Battlefield 3 over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be enough to turn the tide. “Certainly. The only question is when that day will be… And for me, the sooner the better.”
“With Battlefield 3 we have a superior games engine and top notch product. We are convinced that we will, in fact, have a better product than our key competitor.”
So how does Activison view the threat of EA’s Battlefield to their commercial supremacy? The company’s CEO Eric Hirshberg told MCV that they do not “pay much mind looking at what the competitors are doing”. He goes on to say that he believes “EA talk about our games in the press more than we do.”
Well it appears that Activision have every confidence that no matter how hard Electronic Arts try, they will still sell more Call of Duty games than EA can of Battlefield, and they’re not going to let their lead slip so easily.
We guess we’ll see who really is right when Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 go head-to-head this November.

Every company that has said that they game will outsell COD failed to do so. I wonder if EA will be the company that manages that feat? I sense an advertising war coming. I suspect EA will pull out every stop, try everything to advertise their game. I just hope innocent games don’t get caught in the crossfire. I wonder if they will keep trying to outdo each other with preorder bonuses?

Much as i would love this , Battlefield hasnt a cat in hells chance of selling more than Cod . Its like that new album by Lady GaGa , its total an utter bollox (the last one had a few catchy pop tunes even if it werent by cup of tea ) but as shes the in thing it will sell bucketloads.
Also always remember every shooter has to have 1 point taken off its review score because it isnt CoD .
Origami Killer
hopefully it does, as i will be opting for BF3 this year as Call Of Duty is a pile of s**t, anyone who says that Blops is a good game should be slapped, COD4 was the best FPS i have ever played now the series is a mess

Hopefully we can find soon about the BF3 beta too. So when that starts word of mouth will help with the sales too.

Forgive my poor English, I’m not making much sense as I’ve been playing too much Dirt 3 online for most of the day. Think I maybe boss eyed.

Cant wait for both of them!
but remember kids it’s uber cool to be a cod hater these days! It’s the “in” thing ATM

Hmm, where have I read that before? Oh, right – on all of your comments to MW3 related articles ;)

I think EA have a big task on their hands but I can see much potential for dynamic shifting over time. Though I believe CoD will still reign over the next few years, Battlefield will eat the share in the FPS category – namely because Activision will hit saturation point if they continue to use the same engine with little changes over time

Battlefield has been doing the MP better than CoD since day one (2002) , im happy with the more mature generally older audience on Battlefield .
CoD and FiFa have their plus points they round up a large amount of the idiots and casual gamers who only buy these 2 titles every 12 months and pen them into somewhere they can all act hard with each other. I know there are some decent people who play it and worship it like Gazzagb and Tony Cawley (i think) but at 35 years old i just cant be bothered with all the knobs.
Like someone else said – For god sake dont try and change anything to attract the cod mob .

Pre-ordered bf3 as for mw3 I’ll skip or get cheaper at later date. Was planning on doing same when BO came out but was lucky enough to win it.
Bf2 much better than mw2 , BO in my opinion.
Happy gaming what ever you choose.

BF3 looks great and is probably the better game but MW3 will still smash it, the store i work in already has 5 times as many pre-orders for MW3 than it does for BF3 and the way it’s going the gap is only increasing

Can’t stand this between game developers, just concentrate on making your game as good as it can be and then let others decide whether it’s better than competitors.
Anyhoo, welcome ‘whoelse’ :) Thought you were new and just saw CB retweeting your tweet.

No EA, it won’t if you keep on talking about Call of Duty.
