Sony’s New Domain Registrations

Just before E3, Sony have registered a little pile of domains. This is usually an indication that they’re up to something although it doesn’t always come off exactly how we expect.

This time around, it seems that the domains all hint towards an expansion of the Qore brand. Sorry, I mean qOre brand. Yes, they really are all capitalised in that bizarre way. US readers will be familiar with Qore, the monthly show available on the PSN that looks at everything to do with PlayStation. Readers who aren’t in Qore’s regional market might know it best as the show that mistakenly unveiled the PSP Go a week before Sony’s big secret was due to be announced at E3 2009.

The new domains all pertain to entertainment media in some way and seem to indicate that Qore qOre is expanding to become an entertainment franchise and fill out its “lifestyle magazine” claims with more than just games and game related culture. I think that fourth one down is probably just an oddly capitalised QoreSpot rather than a badly punctuated Qore’s Pot. That really would be news.

Here’s the list:

  • SonyqOre.com
  • qOreGames.com
  • qOremusIc.com
  • qOresPot.com
  • qOreVideo.com
  • qOreUnlimited.com

  1. I was wondering what was up with the headline capitals. Anyways, I’m not a fan of the irregular capitalisation of the words, musIc is just bizarre.

But hopefully the programme does expand as it could become a more important brand for Sony’s entertainment offerings. Xbox have their own channel of content so hopefully this is a step in the right direction. Just don’t lose the gaming aspect, it’s what the console’s main purpose is after all.

    • I don’t think it usually makes any difference when you type the url anyway, can anyone clarify?

Also, since both Playstation and Sony already publish printed magazines I’m not so sure where they intend to go with their awkward Q branded shows.

    • I especially hate it when the second letter of a word is capitalized weirdly, for example nVidia, whenever it’s the first word in a sentence I can’t figure out how the hell to capitalize it without it looking odd.

  2. They just love the letter ‘Q’ don’t they!

  3. Still sticking with the awkward Q stuff then

    • The Japanese certainly like their strange names/spellings.

  4. Could it be for a new PSN video store? Perhaps one which people outside US, Canada, UK, DE, FR and ES and can actually access?

Or do we get another shallow promise this E3, that the video store will be spread to all of EU within the year.

  5. NGP? I think it would be a good platform to have all their social things for the NGP and the PS3.

    • This will ve focused on there tablets aswell not just NGP.

      • Wasn’t ruling that out, just saying it could be to do with NGP, hell it could be a Qriocity service for PCs, TV’s, Game Consoles, Tablets, Phones and Washing Machines.

  6. The capitalisation of O would surely just be to try and throw people off the scent? I mean, web domains don’t care about capitalisation, so it simply doesn’t matter.

  7. Qool. Oh wait…no it’s not.

  8. Got all excited about a juicy scoop then……;)

  9. Getting really exciting now….

  10. Pretty much expected with the release of there tablets!
