Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure Features Cross Platform Gaming

Skylanders are a physical toy – Pokémon type characters – and will feature our favorite purple dragon and his many friends.

Each toy will have a microchip in the base and if you buy the ‘Portal Of Power’ (a glowing tower structure) you can link up physical Spyro with a digital version and play the game on your PS3. The clever bit is you can then continue with your character on pretty much any platform.

“Imagine a kid taking his Skylanders toy and bringing it to life on his Xbox 360 one day, then bringing it to life on his friend’s PS3 the next day, then bringing it to life inside his 3DS and playing it in the back of his parents’ car the next day, then bringing it to life on the web the day after that, all the while, building his character’s strength and powers across all of those platforms,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.

Systems supported include PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3Ds, Windows Pc, ‘a variety of mobile devices’ and the web.

Screenshots for the game can be found here and for a video (which looks rather excellent) head on over to the official site.

  1. MEGA gimmiky, but pretty cool.

  2. Methinks they may run into some problems with Sony over the Spyro name ;)

    • huh? why

      • No they won’t.
Sony never owned Spyro, and this is in fact, another game in the series which started off as ‘Spyro the Dragon.’

  3. So, Activision found another way to cash in money? I have a bad feeling that the game will actually suffer from this feature…

  4. If the game sells well enough, that would be a very useful feature.

  5. Hope its good

  6. Sounds good, but on a small game like this that many have lost faith in Spyro, the tech may be lost on many

  7. This is not a Spyro game, this is a social experiment with Spyro slapped on to get attention (hell, its hard to call that demon Spyro)

ill admit that the game looks fairly nice with its art style and gameplay, but thats the only compliment i can give Demon gargoyle from LSD land adventure.
…….i mean Spyro skylanders pompous and vein adventure from the PS3 to the 3DS and finally the bin part 1.

  8. Activision, would you please stop trying to bugger my favourite purple dragon? Thanks.
