GAME Prices PlayStation Vita

Sony wowed audiences around the globe earlier today with its live demonstrations for PlayStation Vita, the spiritual successor to the PSP.

Though the software line-up just kept getting better and better, there’s no doubt some had already turned their focus to the Vita’s price-point. Kazuo Hirai was pleased to announce that both models of the Vita will launch below the $300 mark, the wi-fi only version selling at $249, with its 3G enabled counterpart ramping the cost up to $299.

UK-based GAME is one of the first retailers to come forward with an estimate price; £229.99 for Vita wi-fi and £279.99 for Vita 3G. Before everyone whips out their currency converters and bombard the comment section, this price is likely to drop, Sony announcing that an official UK price will be revealed towards the end of the year.

  1. Sounds like a reasonable price to me.

  2. It’s won’t be £229…..My astoundingly accurate predictions say £179.99 for the base Wi-Fi model and £219.99 for the 3G version….If Sony don’t go there their making a huge mistake.

  3. Just listened to Jack Tretton stating that end of year release is only confirmed for Japan. US/Europe by end of fiscal year March 2012.

Going to have to update my wishlist for Santa now.

  4. tempted to buy one from the states…

    • Before you decide I would make sure the system updates are universal. I bought the original PSP from Hong Kong and therefore had to use their version of the file to update. At the time it was sometimes difficult to find.

      • I’ve got a Hong Kong PSP and it updates itself quite happily.

  5. Im in.

  6. Remember that Sony confirmed just after details of the NGP came out that 3G won;t necessarily be able to offer online gaming – it’s all down to how much data the individual games need to transmit. Andrew House said he was more interested in using 3G for “asynchronous gaming”…

“One area that I’m particularly excited about is the idea of asynchronous gaming, whereby the game experience is existing either on a PS3 or on your NGP, and then the 3G ability is the real-time, you know, ‘you’re under attack, you’ve got to go do something,’ messaging, just keeping that link with you, which clearly is not very heavy in terms of data traffic, but creates a whole different sense to the experience.”

  7. The estimated RRP for Australia (as listed by EB games, the largest game retailer here) is about $350 Australian Dollars. For the Wifi model.

I guess that’s about the best we could expect over here really, though it does annoy me as our dollar is worth more than it’s US counterpart. I’ll think about buying it.
