Team Fortress 2 is a game that has been evolving since its release in 2007; look at The Orange Box on PS3 and PC and there’s a clear divide between the non-updated PS3 version and fully updated PC version.
So, what’s Valve’s next step for the PC version? Well, they’re making the entire game available for free, including all of the updates, on both PC and Mac. That’s right, you can get the full version of Team Fortress 2 for absolutely nothing and it seems Valve will only be making money from people buying in-game items.
There’s no advertising blocking the game, no upgraded service for premium members – TF2 will be truly free to all. This is astounding; TF2 is a full game that many people have been willing to pay for in the past and now everyone will get to experience it.
We highlighted Team Fortress 2 in our Cheap PC Gaming series, praising the amount of free DLC. So, now we can change that to ‘Free PC Gaming with even more free DLC on top’.
Is the free to play online shooter the way forward? It could well be, with this kind of support from Valve.

But I paid £4 for it 18 months ago and now they’re just giving it away for free? I demand my money back and compensation and, and, and…. Waaaaaaah!
seriously, this is another dollop of awesome from Valve ;)
Matt W [Echo]
I’ve yet to pick it up and I STILL demand compensation!

The worst thing is that there are actually people acting like they’ve been ripped off. Valve are seriously doing something great here; I love them.

Does Blue ruin the colour scheme?…. ;)
SpikeyMikey23
or grey even!….. but anyway, awesome news. Now to see if my laptop can run the damn thing.

Argh, you ruined our game of Connect 4!

Could you guys keep it down? Some of us are trying to sleep here, and your connecting of four, and incessant typing is keeping us awake!
Some people!

I was about to buy this the other day… Glad I waited! Absolutely awesome from valve. I’m one of their biggest detractors, but they’ve seriously impressed and astounded me here. Wow…
BrainDiver
Oh… lol I bought this off steam just last week. Oh well, this is still a seriously awesome thing of Valve to do.
tritium
is it possible for valve to get any more awesome?
Tuffcub
Very esily, don’t like any of their games, or Rockstars :)

Respect to valve, looks like no-one has an excuse NOT to own TF2 now ;) the way they’ve supported it with free updates is astounding & no-one can really justify complaining, can they??
The Lone Steven
I may just get this. Will the file size of the game increase with every update?
I reckon a TSA team fortess meet is now needed. Valve are now one of the kindest publishers/developers out there. I wonder if they can actually afford to maintain it without the income from people buying the game?I know in game items can be brought, but that may not be enough for the server fees, paying the devs etc.
Also Meet the medic has finally been released.:D I hope they release Half Life 1 for free sometime soon.;)I played the PS3 version of TF2 and i ended up wanting to murder EA for creating a shoddy port of it. My laptop should run it.:D Although i am probably a “noob” at PC gaming.:(

I’ve always been skeptical of free to play games without quite knowing why. I’m happy that Valve have at least done this without ads or any other nonsense and have kept it to in-game items, which judging by the amount of people that have added me as a friend just to trade my white headphones, seems incredibly popular.

I’m trying to download this to my Mac but can’t log on to Steam. It’s just freezes at start up. Anyone else having problems?
Bilbo_bobbins
wow cool, I nearly bought this on ps3, looks like I will just have to go and check out the PC version, if my computer is up to it.

But are the hats free too?!
Vaile23
don’t be silly!
