People expecting the Uncharted 3 beta to be a glorified promotional demo were probably left a little disappointed yesterday, as it launched with more than its fair share of issues.
Thanks to Sony’s Welcome Back PlayStation Plus offer, the beta was open to everyone and this showed with the matchmaking struggling to cope for the first few hours after going live. Players lucky enough to clear that hurdle intermittently found themselves being kicked from games.
Not the most serious of problems and no doubt attributed to the presumably huge interest in the title.
More worryingly were the reports of dodgy framerates, freezing issues and even system crashes. Naughty Dog were quick to react saying:
“RE: framerate + system freezes: we’re looking into this right now it’s not consistent or everyone so it’s taking a bit of time to track down.”
It seems they have tracked it down as a patch has now been released.
Weighing in at 18MB, it will automatically download the next time you boot up the beta. So far patch notes haven’t been released as Naughty Dog were working way into the night to try and get the issues sorted, but we’ll update this article as soon as we hear what’s been fixed.

I’ve been playing the beta with no issues since 10pm yesterday, it’s so good. Definite GOTY. If your having error messages keep pressing start and it will eventually connect.

Cant wait to get hoem ans sample the Uncharted action.
As long as the damm tennis doesnt go on too long.

Just got the beta and the patch.. cannot get into a game :(

Yesterday my PS3 froze about 10 times while playing, and each game had a framerate of about 4 per second… Today, I haven’t had any trouble playing even before this patch.
clone555
Had the same trouble last night. game was unplayable… Hopefully it will be better today.

Ditto.
I played yesterday without any problem from 17:00 to 21:00 CET (thanks to the early HK beta), then all Hell broke loose around 21:00 when the international floodgates were wide opened. Constant hard locking and 10 frames per second made the “beta-testing” impossible.
Situation is now much better with the patch.

Technically, it didn’t make the beta test impossible, its the perfect environment for testing. They’re discovering errors. This is a beta test, this is not a game, or even a game demo. The idea of beta testing is the discovery of issues. They’ve discovered some issues. Job done. People are going into this disappointed that its not a perfect game, well its not meant to be, its a game in development.

Gave up trying to get into a game after a few minutes. I’ll have to try again later.
I just hope people realise this is a beta and not a demo & there are going to be a few issues as a result. A lot of people seem to think betas are just demos of the finished product!
jcor
Just to clarify, I meant I couldn’t get in to a game lastnight, just after downloading. Won’t have a chance to try again until I get home from work :(

The confusion arises from publishers using demos as betas for marketing purposes, so when an actual beta lands people aren’t used to the issues or the reporting of them.
skibadee
what CC said it is a real beta which means by no way is it finished.

Just got into a game and got “Kicked for killing team mates” in a bloody Free-For-All!!!!! What the hell?
Forrest_01
Haha – “You can play, just don’t kill anyone please”. XD
R4U Eldave0
It’ll pass but I’m definately missing my PS3 right now heh :(
jcor

Hey I still wouldn’t use their hack-me-please hit-and-miss online services, just saying Uncharted3 looks great (who’d have thought aye…) ;)
kivi95
You could just stop buying stuff from the psn store?
R4U Eldave0
I think the problem was I looked at it and thought “well, I’m not using their online services again” and then it got me questioning the point of keeping a console I would only use offline. That said, anger definately got control of me during the ordeal and I made a rather rash decision as a result. Oh well :)
skibadee
hey just come back do not let hackers tell you what to buy.

My Mrs would actually kill me

I can’t play the beta at all as it won’t let me in with a failed NAT type. Hope it isn’t like this with the full game :(
R4U Eldave0
If it makes you feel any better, the beta for Uncharted2 was plagued with connection issues, etc but the full release worked almost straight away :)
stingraz
erm, no it wasn’t.
Not for anyone I know.
R4U Eldave0
:/ Really? Oh ok sorry. I’ll rephrase that: A number of people I know downloaded the beta and we all struggled to find any games at all and any ones we did get into were very laggy
Forrest_01
In fairness, i know a lot of people that were involved in the UC2 beta & said exactly the same thing about having lots of issues at first, so i don’t think you need to apologise to someone who apparently had a faultless experience in the beta!
Surely they should be apologising to you if anything!! :)
jcor
I couldn’t connect to a game in the Killzone 3 beta for some reason. I have nat type 2, can play with no problems in the full game though.
R4U Eldave0
*Eagerly awaits his apology* :D
DRCD1
It told me the exact same thing. Once I checked the connection in the system settings, it started working…
bigmac175
Been playing it for a while now, at first it was bloody awful! :( But after my PS3 froze 3 times, it all of sudden turned fine and im having alot of fun with it!!
david
Naughty dog said on there reiterating page that the patch was Mainly to fix the lag and connection problems
