Take A Fifteen Minute Journey (Video)

We won’t waste your time by covering old ground here. We’ve talked at length about how great we think Journey has the potential to be so there’s no need to go over old ground again with this post. This post is about showing.

This is video footage from the Journey beta that shows off the first fifteen minutes, after the sixaxis camera control and “move the left stick to walk” tutorial overlays. There is a third area after this footage but we had to cut that due to YouTube time restraints. Hopefully this is enough to give you a feel for the game though, if you haven’t been lucky enough to get a spot in the beta program.

  1. This is always what I’d imagine the fremen looked like from dune

  2. Has anybody who didn’t enjoy Flower or Flow played the beta?
Because I really disliked those games, they just didn’t connect at all. Strange, because I normally like those kind of ideas.
Anyway, what I’m asking is, would I prefer this?

    • +1, I have real troubles seeing the appeal – it’s beautiful an all, but what is the actual game about?

      • The game isn’t supposed to be clear from the start, the intrigue and mystery is part of the appeal.

      • Judging from this video, it definetely breaks with most traditional gameplay elements. No spoken word, no written text (only symbols), no health or progress bar or other user interface items. Everything is designed to be a continuous flow into the unknown.
Even the main character is a mystery. I’m interested in how the player would be able to self-identify with it, in order to keep the game interesting. I’m guessing the ambient sounds and the simple colour pattern give the player this unique sense of solitude and the drive to go forward on this journey in order to find the meaning of it all… Basically, this is the same formula as Flow and Flower.

Like Crocadillian said, its power lies in the things you don’t know yet. Its success depends on whether gamers are interested in a discovery tour, without all the familiair game elements..

  3. Beautiful looking gameplay.

The “TSA TV” Symbol should be a little bit smaller…imo.

  4. looks boring to be honest but ill probably still give it a try

  5. I’m not going to watch it although I really want to. I just want to have that “wow” effect when I play it for the first time.

  6. Played through the beta, it’s a very relaxing game to play! Beautiful looking too

  7. It’s wonderful and has me yearning for the full game. Online play is sweet, you can recharge your scarf just by getting close to the other player. I think i’ve found everything there is but i’ll be playing it again tonight! :)

  8. Interesting. It was very relaxing just watching the video :-)

Same kind of atmosphere as flower and flow, colour palette like the Ico games and as strange as Linger in Shadows.

If the price is right this will be worth a shot.

  9. I really hope that a Flow/Flower/Journey retail disc appears one day. It’d be criminal to deny offline gamers

  10. I can see me losing hours to this game, it is going to be so immersive, in a weird way, where you dont really know what is going on.
