Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Now Official

Valve has officially announced that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be out on PC, Mac, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade early next year.

Valve has said the game “delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc)”, as well as featuring new maps, characters, weapons, gameplay modes, matchmaking, leaderboards and more.

Valve marketing chief, Doug Lombardi, had the following to say:

“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999.

For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise.

CS: GO promises to expand on the CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”

Those heading to the Eurogamer Expo next month will also have the chance to play it.

  1. Have a friend who used to play the hell out of CS. Hell, I think he got to the skill level at which he was being paid to sit games.

I’m all for giving this a go as console versions probably won’t be as hardcore straight off the bat. Hopefully Sony and Valve team up to deliver some awesome exclusive extras.

  2. cs on a console? will no doubt try this out havnt played cs 1.6 or source for a while now. would like to see some ingame footage.

  3. I hope it will support all the mods that the current version does and more, i’d love to see an updated Zombie mode where you can actually push furniture :D

  4. *wants keyboard and mouse support*

Never going to happen but hopefully this is more Steamworks integration.

    • Why not?
Unreal Tournament III had keyboard and mouse support, as well as mods, for the PS3 version.
      It’s not THAT unlikely, then.

  5. Wonders if mods will be available for ps3 users? ;)

  6. I MIGHT give this a go. I’ve been a big fan of multiplayer only games, but everyone I know that played CSb on PC loved it, so it might work for me. That said, expect the trope “RuinedFOREVER” to come into play by a minority of fans of CS.

    • Aye, they won’t be happy if it’s on consoles, especially if there is cross-platform play, which you would assume there would be, on PS3 at least. With Steamworks integration.

    • Just a correction of the comment I made, it should be ‘I’ve not been a big fan of multiplayer games’ instead.

  7. Cool although HL3 is what i’m really waiting for.

  8. Any ideas on pricing?

  9. A new challenger approaches! If this is done correctly you can say goodbye to the dominance of CoD and BF on consoles. BRING IT ON!

  10. Ill bet anyone a fiver that no one will play anything except dust and office!

    • Camping the hossies in the projector room? job done.

      • I wonder if there will be a trophy for something like ‘Camp in the projector room for a cumulative total of 72 hours’?!
