Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Now Official

Valve has officially announced that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be out on PC, Mac, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade early next year.

Valve has said the game “delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc)”, as well as featuring new maps, characters, weapons, gameplay modes, matchmaking, leaderboards and more.

Valve marketing chief, Doug Lombardi, had the following to say:

“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999.

For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise.

CS: GO promises to expand on the CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”

Those heading to the Eurogamer Expo next month will also have the chance to play it.

  1. Did anyone else feel slightly let down by the fact that this is heading to XBL and PSN of all places? Are we ever going to see a true sequel to one of the greatest FPS made and not some watered down console version for the kids?

Please for the love of god Valve keep in the tradition of 1.6 and Source!

I know i may get flamed but i have been playing CS since 2001.

    • Why make a sequel when the original / source iterations are still so high among the playtime leaders each month?

I’m surprised by the inclusion of a PC version though, it will no doubt be ripped to shreds by the CS community and hardly played….unless there’s PS3 cross-over play ;-)

    • watered down? dude are you serious? of all the FPS I’ve played I can safely say that the best one devs can bring to consoles is Counter Strike(not so big maps not heavy on physics not much explosives etc.) so I honestly don’t get where your coming from

      • You’ll see where i’m coming from when it’s released or when we see gameplay footage ;P or i’ll eat my hat…..

      • I honestly won’t if they ever water down this game it will be on valve not the consoles

  2. Isn’t it about time we stopped calling them the next gen consoles Doug?
Quite looking forward to this – I played CS years ago around release but only a small amount

  3. REALLY looking forward to this I mean until this day I still play CS consistently

  4. I love CS:S but I just don’t think it’ll translate well to console. Accuracy is highly important and you just won’t get it without kb+m.

    • I dunno, I’m extremely accurate on BC2.

      • Average BC2 pc player > average BC2 console player.
You’re also saying you’re good at aiming in a game you can aim down sight in. CS doesn’t let you ads unless using a sniper.

      • What, really? That sounds pretty rubbish, not being able to aim down the sight with guns…
And maybe, but I find that controllers aren’t as bad to aim with as everyone says.

      • ADS is only needed if the game features ADS (or if you’re accustomed to using it), and alters the accuracy to reflect this, CS doesn’t have it and is balanced thus, very well I might add.

It’s worth remembering that every game is different and requires different play styles that don’t necessarily mean a requirement for every ‘standard’ feature of current FPS’ to be included.

There was a time when ADS was considered a nuisance; when it was a relatively new feature.

    • It’s the playing field that matters, all is relative, so to play on PC you need KB+M, whereas on console everyone will have the same handicap of controllers therefore it’s an even match.

It’ll be interesting if there’s PC > PS3 crossover though.

    • Well said C_ and this is what troubles me the most, will they go for a recoilless approach with the weapons ala CoD?

    • idk man I think it will translate very well on consoles I mean your accuracy won’t be that affected unless off course if you’re using a sniperplus it will be a level playing field so I don’t see a problem

      • actually the one shot sniper just needs to aim at the body so the only thing that I think will surely be affected for the consoles is the weaker sniper other than that nothing really
