EA To Limit Star Wars: The Old Republic Launch Copies

EA has revealed that both digital and retail launch copies of SW: TOR will be purposefully limited as to ensure as smooth a launch as possible. They have a set figure in mind for this MMO, and once sales surpass that then you will no longer be able to purchase digital copies.

Servers will then be expanded to meet demand, although there was no guide as to when copies would once again be available.

  1. I hate it when companies like EA use aggressive marketing like this to promote Origin! They don’t even price competitively on there. It’s all just a money making scheme and the way they’re going about it is despicable. I will never be buying from Origin.

    • Its not like we have a choice unless we want miss out on great games like BF3 and SWTOR :(

      • Just go ahaed and buy the retail copy then. :)

      • you know, i think you could survive that jediryan.

  2. In a way, this makes sense. Origin is pretty new, and its likely there will be some issues that will only appear with the games that are highly anticipated. No point in instantly giving the service some bad press after it crashes on day 1, preventing people from buying the game.

    • This is basically what happens on day 1 with every MMO release. You have to ask yourself if you want a smooth release where you might not get the game before it sells out due to the amount of Star Wars fanboys who will queue up to get this game on release day or if you want server overloads due to huge demands. Either way, EA will make sure that you will probably not enjoy their game until a few weeks after the release… :P

  3. or this could all be marketing to drum up more business by making it look like those who don’t buy straight away will miss out.

or am i being too cynical? ^_^

    • Not cynical at all, I actually agree with you here :)

    • That’s exactly what I thought too. So … perhaps. ;)

  4. Reasonable idea, saves everyone camping the same boar spawns.

  5. pre-ordered, so not really bothered, im sitting patiently waiting the release of SWTOR….come on!!!
