Attachable Vita Arcade Stick In The Works?

Speaking with Joystiq, Street Fighter X Tekken producer Yoshinori Ono has said that Capcom is currently in talks with peripheral manufacturer MadCatz regarding a fighter stick add-on for the PlayStation Vita, though an official product has yet to be announced.

“You can’t replicate the experience entirely on a portable, but I think if we made a small joystick that you could just keep in your bag, and maybe even if you’re in economy class, whip it out during a flight, put your Vita in there, and replicate to some degree the arcade experience, it would be really awesome.”

It was announced at this year’s E3 that both the handheld and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be cross-compatible. Ono has recently confirmed that players will not only be able to throw down with opponents from another Sony console, DLC will also be cross-compatible as long as users have their PSN ID synced between both platforms.

  1. Whatever you do, don’t whip out your joystick in Business Class.

    • Dead Or Alive is probably the only fighting game which it would be deemed perfectly normal to whip out your joystick, anywhere, at any given time.

    • It’s called “doing a Depardieu”.

  2. PLEASE don’t let it look like the 3DS ‘add-on’.

    • No, I imagine it like a box fight sick thing, and the vita would sit in it at an angle.. That would work right?

    • When I saw the title of the article, I seriously thought it was a joke about the 3DS addon…

    • They way he describes it as, put your Vita in there, does make it sound like an external shell it clips into. The would be the most secure option for a fighting stick though, really.

  3. Attachable right stick on the 3DS, attachable fighting stick for the PSV… Why can’t someone make a decent attachable pad for Android/iPhone… Although I suppose when Android gets full USB Host support when 4.0 is released next month you can plug in any gamepad that will be sorted.

Would be good for fighting game Vita owners to get a dedicated peripheral, this handheld really is trying to be all things to all people

    • Yup, it really is trying to appeal to everyone. Let’s just hope it sells.

    • There is an app that connects your PS3 controller to your Android device via bluetooth. Root is required but hey, we’re talking about Android, right?

  4. Right i’m all set, just grab my Vita and i’m ready to go.. better bring the charger too… oh and i’ll probably need some sort of airplane socket adapter…Right, i’m ready now…. wait maybe i’ll bring that external battery along as it’s long haul and there might not be a socket.. ok,all set now… oh , i’d better bring that fighting stick…. and a few game-cards…..headphones… and a case to hold everything…Ah fuggit – maybe i’ll just bring a book ;)

    • Hope you got a memory card with all that xD……

  5. Yeh well it’ll break down 5 seconds after you use it, MadCatz stuff is poor.

    • The perception that MadCatz products die fast should have died many, many years ago. Their products, especially the FightSticks in particular, have won numerous awards due to its quality. Go to any fighting game event and the stick you’ll see being used the most is one made by MadCatz. And it’s for a good reason.

  6. I wonder what will be announced on Monday? It’s supposed to be a portable handheld system.

  7. It looks like the Vita will be doing everything soon. I would advise people not to whip out their joysticks as they may get arrested. ;)

I wonder if a DVD addon or Blu ray addon will be annouced soon? Followed by the Vita glove and Vita tissues for playing uncharted.

    • Not to mention vita screen polish lol

    • I know you probably meant something wholly more innocent, but you say Vita Tissues, I hear wank joke.

      • Oh god and I missed the Vita Glove that goes with the tissues! Perfect.

  8. Peripherals for handhelds?
Isn’t there enough input options on Vita as is?
I know some people don’t like fighting games without their sticks, but I can do without.
Especially if I have to carry it around.

    • Well maybe if your on your way to a tournament, could get some practice in.

      • Or while traveling. Takes me almost 2 hours to get to the weekly events. I’d be able to practice during that time without dealing with impractical and useless control schemes.

  9. Vita is looking better every day, and I’m totally used to the name now too.

  10. Love it that they’re making DLC cross compatible. I hope they’ll do that for a lot of stuff.
