THQ have just let us know that the next game in the Homefront franchise (it’s now a franchise?) will be developed by Crytek.
[drop2]”Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry’s best talent,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ.“Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.”
Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli is equally bouyant. “We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ,” he said. “We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game.”
“It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”
The next Homefront will be released in THQ’s 2014 fiscal year. Presumably on the next generation of consoles. The first game scored 8/10 here on TSA.

I didn’t like the look of Homefront and thus did not buy it plus i’m not a big fan of the miltary FPS. Didn’t THQ say that they would do this a week before release of Homefront 1?

Ermm, what? That’s a bit odd.
Oh and I’m pretty sure I read that Homefront was built to be a franchise, so I’m not surprised about it having a sequel. I am, however, surprised about Crytek being on board this time.

Can only make the game better.

I played half of Homefront’s campaign and lost interest, unlike Crysis 2 where i played about two thirds .. and lost interest.. :/

2014? Damn! I really enjoyed Homefront and I’ve been hoping for a sequel. But 2014?!

Picked up a copy last month for £5 (brand new!) but have yet to really get into it. I would prefer it if Crytek focused on TimeSplitters instead, but Homefront still has a lot to offer.
Origami Killer
Played Homefront over a friends house for a few hours, the online was a shambles. Crytek released Crysis 2 at the same time which was far better in my opinion.

Right. Well, I’ll disagree with everyone. I thought Homefront was ace, add Crytek into the mix and I reckon this could be a belter.
