Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has revealed a raft of new measures to stop cheats in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
This year there will be dedicated teams monitoring the game with reports and information being gathered via Call Of Duty Elite and other sources.
Pirates will also be caught thanks to additional ‘challenge response things’.
Challenge response things. I can’t go into detail on it but it’s about verifying what the code is supposed to be and what the code actually is on the client side, and making sure that those are aligned.
Understandably Robert was vague on details when it comes to catching cheaters but it does sound like there are robust procedures in place.

I cant wait to get this game. Im very excited for it. If they are stopping glitchers and hackers then good times. if people want to boost, it doesnt really bother me, as long as they dont interfere with my game. dont really see the point of boosting in cod. I enjoy doing the challenges. I’m also going to prestige. I havent presigied since COD4.

& you’ll be rewarded, in the prestige shop. What with i’m not sure.

I know very little about elite etc so i have no idea what the prestige shop is. I dont want to read about it, I want to use it :D
To be honest, i think i am most excited about MW3 than anything else. I Love MW2 and still play it nearly every day!

Challenge accepted.
Seriously though it annoyed me when people cheated on mw2, glad they’re doing this.

God these PR people are so naive. Quick explanation of challenge response then.
Simplest form you’ll likely be familiar with: Captcha code. Challenges you to respond with the same data it gave you (letters and numbers) to make sure you are human.
Pay TV (what I used to work with): encryption of the signal is based on challenge response. The decoder receives a challenge from the satellite, gives it to the smartcard, the smartcard runs a secret algorithm to produce a response and that is bassed back to the decoder as the decryption key. If the key is right, the picture will appear for a few seconds until it is changed again and a new challenge is sent (Just In Time) over the satellite. Any other key results in non-sensical data (a scrambled picture).
In Modern Warfare 3, they have more than likely taken a slack approach such as:
– Keep a copy of the game code on the server that is identical to what is on the Bluray
– Every few seconds or minutes, calculate a hash of some small randomly chosen piece of the code (or specifically chosen if they know a part that is likely to be changed to enable cheating)
– Ask the client to do the same
– Client returns hash to server
– If they don’t match, client gets disconnected.
Only one small problem with that approach, all you have to do is keep an original copy of the code and fudge the hash routine to use that instead of the currently running modified copy.
Try again gentlemen.

Modern Warfare all the way for me :) I haven’t played any BF games. I’m not saying they’re bad though! But I’m sticking with CoD for SP mode, not MP! I’m not a CoD MP person. But, I need to know what happens to Soap, Nikolai, Price Day One for me!
