Sony Warn Of 90,000 User/Pass Hack Attempts

Sony has warned its users that it has detected a ‘massive’ amount of attempts to sign into user accounts, including the PSN. Of the 90,000 user accounts that were part of the attempt, 60,000 were PlayStation Network IDs.

“We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment (“Networks”) services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database,” said the statement.

The source of the list of usernames and passwords hasn’t yet been determined, but Sony say 0.1% of users have been affected.

Sony will work with any user that has had fraudulent transactions against their Sony account and say that anyone’s account that was compromised will have been locked out awaiting a password reset.

We remind all users to ensure all passwords are unique for each service and website you use.

  1. For feck sake. Why do some people feel the need to hack stuff? They are lowlifes. At least Sony is taking quick action this time around. In fact, i willing to bet that the hackers are trying to steal our purchases as i don’t think many people will have been using their cards since the last hack. :)

    • I agree, very sad.
I never use my card anymore on PSN.

  2. Story on the street is that the details are actually Xbox Live 100k stolen login/passwords that Microsoft has been keeping quiet about.

Many of the users of this attempted PSN bruteforce hack ONLY used their email/password combo on Xbox Live.

    Tut Tut Microsoft….

    • “story on the street” – you mean fanboy bullshit? It’s embarrassing to watch your comments

Info was stolen from websites that were hacked and then used to try to access PSN accounts (people using the same passwords). It seems that Sony’s security did a great job and noticed the issue though. So, good job Sony. Still, nothing to do with Microsoft, however much you yearn for it to be.

    • Its really sad I mean what happens if someone hacks into your account? Would you feel lost? Enraged?

See… Blaming Microsoft or any other company is well.. heartless and a bit childish.. please think it through, this Fanboy stuff can go away…

I used to be like that before August 2008 and TSA strengthened that open-mindness when I was referred to the site in Late August…and it grew to support many platforms, which was wonderful.

Let me say because I think its enough, A lot as changed since 2009 and it feels great.

  3. Had to change everything just to make sure, will have to do the same with the one I use for PSP mostly now too.
