Buy A Movie At Tesco, Get Free Digital Version On Console

You may have missed the news that Tesco had purchased online video service BlinkBox a few months back, at the time it appeared to be an odd move but Tesco have now revealed their plans.

If you purchase a selected DVD or Blu-ray from Tesco, the movie is also yours to watch online at Blinkbox. In effect, you get a free digital copy of the movie to watch where and whenever you like.

The Blinkbox service is currently available on PC, Mac, PS3, LG and Samsung Smart TVs and will soon launch on iPad and Xbox 360.

The service uses the Tesco Clubcard which is linked to both your Tesco account and your Blinkbox account.

The first movie available via the Tesco offer is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Blinkbox will offer the movie before it lands on rivals LoveFilm and NetFlix.

Forthcoming movies on the new service include The Hangover Part 2, The Smurfs, Final Destination 5, Jeremy Clarkson: Powered Up, Top Gear at the Movies, John Bishop Sunshine Tour and Conan the Barbarian.

The last time we looked at Blinkbox was July 2010 and the PS3 interface (accessed by pointing the PS3 browser to www.blinkbox.com ) was in beta testing and was slightly cumbersome. Hopefully it has improved since then.

  1. What a cool idea. I’m sure I can put this to use.
