Netflix App Appears On UK and Irish PS3s

PS3 owners living in the UK and Ireland will notice a Netflix app appearing under the TV/Video Service section of the XMB. Weighing in at a tiny 13mb, the app doesn’t do much yet apart from launch a “coming soon” screen, as well as ask if you would like to be informed via email.

It’ll be interesting to see how it stacks up against the LOVEFiLM app which, in my opinion at least, isn’t that great.

  1. Depending on the sub cost, I would probably get Netflix as a compliment to the Blu Rays I get from Lovefilm. But to be honest, I will more than likely just stay with LF. I stagger my disk returns so am never without something to watch. The LF streaming service, whilst poor, is just an add on for me. Would certainly be nice if they improved it now though, and with the might of Amazon behind them they have the resources now.

  2. The number and quality of films lovefilm streams isn’t that great, will be good if netflix forces them to up their game.

    • not imo they have loads of great films never had a problem watching any.

      • You guys are lucky you even some sort of movie streaming app. We have nothing in Ireland. Apart from MUBI but I havent even looked at that.

      • Really? I just think most of them are pretty old, and 80% of them I’ve never even heard of.

      • I just watched the hangover dark knight newish loads of others.

  3. i used love film streaming app for the free trial but i was never intrested in the dvd aspect of its service… im after a streaming service… i just want to click and watch.
so far being able to access the XMB makes the netflix app better than the iplayer and love film app so far… so i will as everyone else has said wait for the price and to see the cataloge.. but so far its looking like a much better app….
5od next maybe… or perhaps sky go?

  4. lovefilm will make there service even better now thx netflix. a lot of good films have been added lately.

  5. Well, it’s nice to have another service on the XMB. I’ll certainly try out any free trial if they offer one.

  6. Strange the app doesn’t show for me.

  7. Sky have a monopoly on films something like a years exclusive rights. Google it a bit you’ll see what I mean but I think with Lovefilm and now Netflix gaining momentum this will probably lessen.

I love the Lovefilm service (though the app is way better on the 360!) Can’t wait to see what Netflix offer.

  8. Can’t wait to see what Netflix bring’s as a few people said in the comments Ireland only has the Mubi service, which is not that great, hell we still don’t have the PSN VOD service, so i have very high hope’s for Netflix so they better not burn me or they will feel my wrath!! Muhha ha!

  9. strange it hasn’t appeared for me in ireland :(
