Sony has sent out an estimate of the number of PlayStation consoles sold worldwide between November 18th and December 31st 2011.
The Vita contributed 0.5m towards the total number, with the PS3 exceeding 3.9m. The PlayStation Move sold 1.7m, whilst the good old PSP still managed to chalk up a respectable 1.6m.
Oh, and the PS2 is still going, selling 0.5m. A good set of figures for Sony.

Agreed. Love the PlayStation Family….PS2…what a legend that console is!

I actually figured they would have sold more PS2s. I guess the price drop really help get people into a new PS3.

lol! Ye olde stalwart!
sparkyscrum
They sold as many PS2 as Vita’s? Wow.

The Vita is still only in one region though.

And I think I read somewhere that the PS2 is the only Sony home console officially sold in some developing regions.
djhsecondnature
@tonyyeb – In some its the only console. Let alone Sony one.

Makes even more sense then.

Raking it in!

That is very impressive. Be interested to see the same sales records for wii and 360s over the same period.

I wonder how certain members will try to claim that TSA is baised on this article? ;)
The PS2 seems to be refusing to die. :O I mean, it’s been 12ish years since it launched and it’s still selling. The Vita is doing a bit poorly atm but it’s only been released in one region so next month will be interesting to see how it fares.

Well duh its way better than PS3, Tsa is so bias

It’s mental isn’t it, although I think you can get them for about £25 in shops now. Pretty budget.

Great news for Sony. Long live the PS2, remarkable that it still sells so well.
Sympozium
The many games the PS2 as been graced with is just amazing truly deserves to live so long…. unless you can get them games somewhere and not see millions of old outdated sports games in GAME and other horrible atrocites…

Hopefully the Vita will do better in other territories when released, but I have my doubts.
Wonder if the PS3 will still be selling in decent numbers as the PS2 when it’s 12 years old.

good news, the PS3 is a great machine now at a great price point
