Resident Evil 6 Revealed, Is A Thing

[drop2]Looks like our man Tuffcub was right – the viral site was from Capcom, and yep, it’s – save for a last minute switcharoo tonight – about Resident Evil 6.

The poster seen to the right, leaked by an IGN reader to the site’s Australian version, shows that the game is multiformat (although doesn’t seem to be heading to PC just yet) and will be released November this year, on the 20th.

It’s a pre-order display, which indicates that this is a retail stand. We’re gathering that this has come from GameSpot.

More is expected at 10pm GMT tonight, when the No Hope Left website will hopefully switch over to the full Resident Evil 6 thing and we’ll get more information.

We’ll update this post when we get more info through.  Until then, gaze at the poster and make comment about how ropey that ‘6’ logo looks but hang on to the notion that the game could be pretty good.

Update 1: we’re hearing that Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will both be playable characters.  The game will be ‘larger’ than the others.  Ada Wong will have a playable role at a certain point.  Resident Evil 6 will feature lots of locations, including the previously rumoured China.

It’s apparently the same team as Resident Evils 4 and 5.

Update 2: Here’s the press release and two videos, a teaser and a three minute epic:

“Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games,” says the press release, “is very proud to announce that Resident Evil 6 is in full development and scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system on November 20, 2012 with a Windows PC version to follow.”

Apparently it’s the “most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date” with the publishers saying its’ “the dramatic horror experience of the year”.

“It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity,” the PR continues. “Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision.”

“At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.”

As we suspected, Leon and Chris will be there together for the first time, and will be “joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement, in this relentless dramatic horror experience enacted on a global scale.”

“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” said Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing.

“The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”

Resident Evil 6 Executive Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi added: “From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers.”

  1. Cannot.Digest.Awesomeness.
Three RE titles in 12 months. Win!

    • and I thought Activision milked Call of Duty.

      • :P Oh come on, this is hardly normal behaviour from the RE series. Normally we get one a year if we’re lucky. Besides a completely different team have been working on Operation Raccoon City

      • Oh right, I didn’t know it was by a different team.

  2. Looks good tho I still haven’t finished the last RE. Shame its not coming to Vita.

  3. More coop, which means more time trying to put up with a useless AI partner.

I think I will wait for Dead Space 3.

    • From what I’ve seen of the AI in the new Revelations thus far, it does seem a lot better. They don’t use your ammo/health and they generally stay out of trouble and are mainly there to offer co-op as a viable option. RE6 could prove me wrong of course but, given how much people disliked the AI in RE5, I would be surprised if they haven’t gone back to the drawing board with that concept

  4. Wow great trailer. Really intrigued now.

  5. I don’t mind the 4/5 camera personally but agree that they need to bring back more horror and less 3rd person shooter.

    • Woopsy, that was meant to be a reply to I Talk About Games on the previous page. It’s too early :(

  6. I was a little bit “meh” at the thought of another clunky Resi game tbh. But that trailer looks rather spiffing!! :)

  7. What a sloppy announcement.

    • Really? They have managed to keep quiet about a game pretty much right up to its final release. That’s practically unheard of in the gaming industry. To each their own but I think they’ve done a great job

  8. Well it sounded to me that Nolan North was voicing both Leon and Chris in that trailer…

  9. I saw the trailer on FX last night while i was watching Family Guy i thought it was the 3DS version first until the 6 came up then had to rewind to see if it was right and i wasnt just tired.

  10. Just hope they do something with the controls. RE5 was like trying to steer a tank.

    • hehe, yeah it was. Especially if you’ve played Dead Space before.
