The poster seen to the right, leaked by an IGN reader to the site’s Australian version, shows that the game is multiformat (although doesn’t seem to be heading to PC just yet) and will be released November this year, on the 20th.
It’s a pre-order display, which indicates that this is a retail stand. We’re gathering that this has come from GameSpot.
More is expected at 10pm GMT tonight, when the No Hope Left website will hopefully switch over to the full Resident Evil 6 thing and we’ll get more information.
We’ll update this post when we get more info through. Until then, gaze at the poster and make comment about how ropey that ‘6’ logo looks but hang on to the notion that the game could be pretty good.
Update 1: we’re hearing that Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will both be playable characters. The game will be ‘larger’ than the others. Ada Wong will have a playable role at a certain point. Resident Evil 6 will feature lots of locations, including the previously rumoured China.
It’s apparently the same team as Resident Evils 4 and 5.
Update 2: Here’s the press release and two videos, a teaser and a three minute epic:
“Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games,” says the press release, “is very proud to announce that Resident Evil 6 is in full development and scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system on November 20, 2012 with a Windows PC version to follow.”
Apparently it’s the “most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date” with the publishers saying its’ “the dramatic horror experience of the year”.
“It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity,” the PR continues. “Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision.”
“At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.”
As we suspected, Leon and Chris will be there together for the first time, and will be “joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement, in this relentless dramatic horror experience enacted on a global scale.”
“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” said Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing.
“The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”
Resident Evil 6 Executive Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi added: “From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers.”
What do you think?

This tops the list of anticipation. Can’t wait.

Oh dear. Annoying Ashley is returning… and that with her looks like it could be Steve Burnside from CVX.

I reckon the events of Resi 4 have had an effect on her…
Definitely seems tougher.

Did my eyes deceive me or was Leon walking AND aiming at the same time?!!
Praise the sun!

Looks good;) Hopefully he can walk/run & shoot now? + Shame it’s going to have horrible multi-format graphics tho like ‘RE5’ did :-/ Oh well.

Oh wow.
Looks great, my no.1 game for 2012 just changed.
Leon? Hell yes! (And was that Ashley? I’m certain it was, around 2:05)
Anyway, the game looks stunning!

Its every other Resi game mashed in to one big new one! They even say ‘It’s Racoon City all over again’.
Best trailer I have seen in yonks. Can’t wait.

Would anyone else like to see the story wrap up slightly? Tie up some loose ends and see some progression to the story/protagonists?
I lost interest after 3, the first two gave the impression that Capcom were going to up the stakes and the scale as the sequels progressed but that was lost as soon they brought out 4 Raccoon City games. 4 was changed the game quite a bit but it never really encouraged the overall story, 5 was similar in that it evolved the game mechanics but both of them never really pressed onward with that feeling of urgency or left you feeling that things weren’t contained to a small incident.
Hopefully this is where 6 comes in and it ends with Jill and Chris having some ‘pokey’ fun in a bedroom lit by a fireplace with Weskers mutated head mounted above it…. ;)

You never fail to make me laugh, Ymam, that lost sentence is just hilarious :P

Looks like a great mix of traditional horror, full on action and set pieces. Like the idea of the mercenary’s coming into it. Adds a bit of a political side to things
I talk about games
I like that resident evil has zombies again, but I don’t like the RE 4/5 camera or the over the top action with all the jumping around and the gears of war type sprinting. Why can’t they just make a proper RE game; slow, shit-your-pants scary, RE 1,2,3, camera. Just like RE was like in the good old days.

Key word “old”
I talk about games
No. Key word “good”

I’d say more people prefer Resi 4 to the previous games.
Myself, for example.
I talk about games
Only more kids who probably even born when the good RE games came out.
