Sony “Will Probably Be The Last To Announce Something” Regarding Next Gen

There has been much talk lately regarding the next generation of consoles. One of the biggest questions has to be who, out of Sony and Microsoft, will show their hand first.

According to PlayStation France CEO Philippe Cardon, it might not be Sony:

It’s true that there are many rumours, but I couldn’t tell you anything. The Wii is pressed for time because it is in decline. In our case, we have a lot less pressure. We were the last to leave the PS3, and will probably be the last to announce something.”

Cardon also thinks that a Monster Hunter game will be heading to the Vita this year. When talking about sales he had the following to say:

“The games available at launch in Japan do not correspond to the typology of the Japanese public. It lacks a particular game, Monster Hunter, scheduled for the coming months. Had it been there from the start in Japan, the story would have been different.”

I loved Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, but a portable game with better graphics and improved online integration would be fantastic.

  1. PS4 would be great.. maybe in 2013 or 2014 however Sony are releasing the Vita, they’d be focusing on that.

    …omg Monster Hunter

  2. Never catch me jumping ship to either Apple or Microsoft .

  3. It makes sense to me that Sony’ will want to concentrate on pushing the Vita out there before announcing a new console. I presume they will have something to announce once microsoft have shown their cards but whether the PS4 will actually be ready for deployment as soon as the n’Xbox, i wouldn’t be so sure.

  4. The announcement of PS3 was a major factor in the PSP not being as succesful as it should have been- a lot of developers suddenly had something else to focus on. It wasn’t the only factor which led to the DS outselling it by so much, but it was a factor, and definitely led to the year and a half or so when there was hardly any decent new game available on PSP. At least until the time when Motorstorm, Resistance, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo and Assassin’s Creed all released within a few months of each other anyway.
PS4 won’t be announced this year in order to protect the Vita. Once that’s properly established, the PS4 will be unveiled.
At least that’s what I think.

  5. Honestly, I’d prefer Sony to wait until Microsoft have announced & maybe even launch their next machine. Plus the extra time will help them establish the Vita in market too.
I’m in no hurry to upgrade as I’ve plenty enough ps3 games to keep me occupied at the moment & like most, in these tough financial times, a new console isn’t high on my priorities.
