PlayStation Network Being Renamed?

Well this is an interesting one.  A couple of people over at NeoGAF claim to have received an email from Sony that says, basically, that PSN accounts will become SEN accounts – Sony Entertainment Network.

“On February 8, 2012,” it says, “your PlayStation Network account will be renamed to a “Sony Entertainment Network” account or a ‘SEN account’ in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 3 system software and PlayStation Vita system software updates.”

It says this won’t be applied to PSP accounts “at this time”.

“For general purposes, this account change is a change in name only,” continues the email. “Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them. In accordance with this transition, some necessary naming changes will be made to the TOS and Privacy Policy.”

The email says the the transition is based on “Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering” and says that “PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network.”

“This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account,” it concludes.

This would make sense (sens?), as you can manage your PlayStation devices over at the Sony Entertainment Network website, signing in with a PSN ID. If this does turn out to be true, would having one overarching account for TVs, Music and gaming be a good idea?

  1. about the changing IDS thing, im pretty sure that japanese accounts can change their ID because iv seen someone do it.

  2. Anyone else having problems with the PSN today? My whole download list has vanished and I can’t buy anything either. Rang Sony and they say maintainence, but as I’ve not seen it mentioned anywhere, it seems a little strange.

    • I’ve had major problems with the store the past few days. On Wednesday I kept getting the maintenance message. Thursday I got the same. Friday it let me in to the store and let me hit the download button on my PS+ swag but then only came up with the Thank You message and didn’t actually download anything so the items are saying I have got the items but can’t download them. Checked my past downloads and came up with an error. God know if it is working today.

All of this makes me a very sad panda indeed!

      • Me too, my resolve has weakened thanks to Play.coms Uncharted Vita bundle and I’m trying to sort my psp downloads out for what I’m keeping on psp and what I want on Vita.

Hope they have it sorted by Wednesday, I’ve almost bought Simpsons Arcade on XBLA 3 time now, but they don’t deserve my money for screwing the EU plussers, so I’ll try to last out til our next update.

      • I just rang Sony about 10 seconds ago and the guy on the phone is having the same problem, not only that but they’ve had quite a few people phoning it in as well. They say it’s being sorted but when I asked for a time frame they just said as soon as possible. Gutted because I just bought Battlefield 3 and was looking forward to getting my ass kicked lol. Couldn’t redeem my online code …just another reason why online codes suck.

  3. I hope this means that the PS Store will become available in more countries within the EU.

  4. Totally off topic but is anyone have problem with the PSN store? I bought the Back to Karkland DLC for BF3 and it never downloaded so when I clicked the “View Downloads” to trap my previous purchases from there I got the error code “80023102” and the message “No content available”.

    I’m from England btw.

    • Yes, we’re discussing it above, I’ve phoned Sony and they say maintainence.

      • Oh I skimmed over it all. Thanks very much pal.

      • “maintenance”
tech industry code for break stuff that was working fine.

  5. “one convenient account”?
that would be an american account then?

  6. Changing the name does’t bother me especially if new services will be added in the future.

  7. I couldn’t give a hoot really .

  8. Got the email through from Sony a while ago regarding this.
