CCP Games has announced that UK players of ‘EVE Online’ will be able to pay in Pounds Sterling from May 1st. Jon Lander, senior producer for EVE Online said:
“UK players have been an important part of the EVE community from the very beginning, organizing some of the very first player meets, being at the forefront of EVE’s PvP alliances and expanding the EVE experience with such creations as the epic “Clear Skies” movies.
The enthusiasm and creativity of these players has only underlined the importance of the UK market as we enter a very exciting time for the EVE Universe.”
The new payment option will reduce subscription prices for UK players by approximately 20% compared to the current price rates. The subscription fee for UK players will stand at £9.99 a month.

EVE has always fascinated me but even at £10 it’s still a push.

I’m very tempted to try Eve but I worry that it’ll be unfathomable to get into. I don’t like/am crap at multiplayer gaming at the best of times, doing it with that many seasoned players around might be too much!

It can be daunting, but there are some fantastic guides on the eve site and at first you’ve got little or nothing to lose, so you can experiment a lot. Primary rule for avoiding PVP would be to stay in .5 security space or above as the po po patrol so called “hi sec” space. There’s lots of solo stuff you can do should you wish and then plenty of opportunity to go raid pve plexes etc in safe space with friends if the pvp stuff doesn’t appeal. I uite like sneaking about lo-sec in a cloaked ship looking for salvage etc rather than out and out pvp when I want a break from missions.
It’s the closest available game to Elite imo and the combat model is fascinating being mainly about angles, velocities and tracking speeds, it’s quite a feeling when your fleet of like minded friends drops out of warp and starts smashing stuff up, especially once you hit lvl 5 missions and are all flying Marauders and the like :D

Hmm, I might try again with this later in the year. It’s amazingly complex though, I was so lost the last time I had a trial!

I really enjoyed the trial but I’m staying away from it for my own safety: I’d get addicted way too easily to games.

of course it is worth mentioning that this game is playable for free if you have the time and dedication required to save enough money for a plex each month
