GAME Reward Cards, Gift Cards and Refunds Halted

This was bound to happen when the administrators moved in but it’s worth reiterating for those of you with credit remaining on your cards or those hoping to swoop in for a bargain now the beleaguered retailer is starting to streamline.

GAME (and Gamestation) reward card points will not be honoured, any gift cards you might have been holding on to are, for the moment, worthless and you won’t be able to return anything bought before or after the company entered administration for a refund.

This might all just be a suspension. If there’s a rescue and the new owners decide to run the chain as it was, they might honour this credit so don’t throw your cards in the bin just yet, although I would suggest that the hope of them ever being worth anything again is a long shot.

The full list of changes to the company’s policy, as displayed on their Facebook page, is as follows:

  1. Online Sales: We expect some disruption to our online services over the next few days while we make some changes. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  2. Refunds and Exchanges: Until further notice, we will not be able to offer refunds or exchanges for products purchased either before the administration or for products purchased from the date of the administration.
  3. Pre-Orders: No new pre-orders can be taken until further notice. No refunds can be given for any pre-order deposits which have been paid. We are reviewing this over the next week.
  4. GAME Reward card: We have had to suspended use of GAME Reward Cards. This means that points can be earned but NOT redeemed until further notice.
  5. Gift cards: We have also had to suspend GAME gift cards. The value on these cards cannot be redeemed. If this changes, we will let you know. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  6. GAMEWallet: the value stored in GAMEwallet accounts will be suspended until further notice following the appointment of administrators.
  7. Pre-owned Software: You can still buy pre owned products at great prices in your local store or online. If you trade in a pre-owned software item then you will still be able to accrue reward points and use your trade in to exchange for another item. You will not be able to trade in pre-owned software for cash. If this changes, we will let you know. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  8. Pre-owned Hardware: We have had to suspend trade in for pre-owned hardware at this time. If this changes, we will let you know. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.
  9. Click and Collect titles: We have had to suspend this service. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

If you have any questions, you’re urged to contact GAME customer services by email on [email protected] but we imagine they’re rather busy just now.

  1. Nads.. I just remembered I was going to get a preowned 360 HDD from Gamestation at the weekend.

  2. Since both websites are down for maintenance they should be back up and running with a huge amount of sales! this could be by tomorrow or maybe a few days. who knows

    • Ha ha ha. That’s so optimistic it’s funny.

    • I bet you’ve signed on to the http://www.wolves.co.uk site and posted on their message boards that they’ll be staying the Premier League for next season.

  3. anyone who didn’t use up their credit over the past couple of months must have been living in a cave & the stories emerging of people taking credit for trade-ins as recent as yesterday must just be idiots seeing as GAME announced on Friday it was going to appoint an administrator, with the formalities obviously being carried out today.

    • Really? As far as I can tell this is only coming outside of the specialist press today, before now it was pretty much just gaming outlets covering the story wasn’t it? Very easy to not realise you’d have trouble with credit etc…

      • For the last two weeks I’ve seen around three or four articles on BBC News Website about Game potentially going tits-up.

      • Yep, even my wife knows.

      • When a penguins wife knows GAME is in the crapper, you know it’s serious!

      • I agree, I used my vouchers/point up over 2 weeks back due to the media coverage. Finally forced me into buying Uncharted 3 :)

      • I had loads of people coming into the shop who knew what was going on, just the regular public not gamers.

      • The Times has featured a number of articles about Game going under.

    • I had/have £20 giftcard for GAME still but that still wasnt enough to get me into one of their shops with their horrible sales technique.

    • to be honest, I haven’t seen anything in the papers other than a small column saying Game was possibly heading for it.

      • even my nan had known about it for a few weeks lol I made sure I spent what I could on my card

    • That said – staff at GAME have been politely denying any such horror stories & still encouraging people to pre-order. I sent a lass from my work in to pick up a few bargains & they did try their best (as they did to me) to coerce her into pre-ordering Max Payne/etc. Luckily I’d had the decency to forewarn her & she even more politely shot the sales people down in flames – wish I’d been there to see it! I simply said “no thanks”.

  4. Good job I used my £130 last week! Bad day in gaming :( Always liked GAME but the high prices was going to catch up with them one day

  5. Might be worth something on ebay in a few months though! Remember when Woolworths went under and people were selling carrier bags on there!

  6. Store Update: The Gamestation and 2 GAME Stores have been shut in Newcastle. The main Eldon Square outlet remains open. Unfortunately my flatmate worked in the Fenwicks branch which has been closed. The two GAME outlets in the Metro Centre will remain open for the time being and the Gamestation store is closed. Post any store closure updates you know of as a reply to this comment!

  7. Goddamnit, still have £12 on my Reward card that I ordered Twisted Metal with…two weeks ago :(

    • D’oh!

      • I have just realised that your avatar is perfect for any exclamation! :)

  8. I got rid of the massive £2 I had on my Gamestation reward card yesterday, meaning their last copy of Singstar: Back To The 80s cost me a monumental 98p.

  9. More people in the ever extending list of creditors.

  10. used up my last £2.98 yesterday to get a £15 PSN card – me and GAME are all square now
